Seeing how it does not seem as this will come off right away, there is a way that this could be a bigger fight w/ more hype around it. it might take a few fights, but this could realistically happen. management differences, tv contracts, etc aside...this could very well happen. Not only is it "do-able" but it seems like it would add a little steam behind the fight...insert whatever if you disagree :good Paul Williams' Route * Williams/Cintron: easy yet solid win for Williams. No way Cintron can withstand that volume for 12 rounds. This fight seems like the most likely landing spot for Paul right now despite anything being signed yet. * Williams/Cotto: WBA JMW Title Fight: This could happen in the Fall. Cotto would have to get by Foreman first which I think he can do. I'm skeptical about Cotto at 154 and Foreman is a slippery **** but is the standard bearer for feather fists. Cotto has looked good in both his losses before being broken down by his opponent. This won't happen against Foreman, so i see Cotto being able to eek out a points win. Against Williams, I can see Cotto landing his jab early and landing to the body early but I think Williams wins this at 154 relatively easy. Its a big name and big money for Paul, but it should be easy for him after the 3-4 round. I would expect a possible late stoppage here. * Williams/Martinez rematch: WBA/WBC JMW Unification Match: Late Winter/Early 2011?? Would obviously be the toughest of the three but I would still expect Williams to win again only this time more convincingly. Not only would this be a unification bout but would also solidify Williams as the king of the division. Kelly Pavlik's Route * Pavlik/Martinez: All but set for the spring. Kelly's hardest of the three i'll list. I've posted on this ad naseum so I won't bore you guys with it. For those who think he'll lose, i know why you think that and for those who think he'll win i know why you think that and i agree with you. So for those who think (or want ) Kelly to lose, just play along... * Pavlik/Sturm: WBA/WBO/WBC MW Title Unification: Fall"ish" of this year. I know Sturm is walking around at damn near CW and has a new 10 fight German TV deal but this has been talked about for a long time and I think something can be worked out. Sturm may not want to come here and Kelly may not want to go there (both for obvious reasons) but something can be worked out. Kelly wins this. Sturm will get stopped. * Pavlik/Sylvester: WBA/WBO/WBC/IBF MW Title Unification: early 2011?? I know there will be mando's lining up for this belt and Sylvester would have to get by at least "made in hell" before this happens but I think he can. Regardless, at his height, unless you hit like abraham, your not beating Kelly. Pavlik/Williams for 2011: since it won't happen anytime soon it seems, i feel the money would be too good for either man after those paths above are taken. Even Arum and Goosen should be able to find a way to divide that pie up so that everyone is happy. For Kelly, he can't go up right now since the tourney is tying up all the big SMW's except Bute. For Paul, no one at 147 will fight him. And from where I'm sitting, by the time Pac, PBF, and SSM get done playing peek-a-boo with eachother and get it on, it will be too late for Paul. Pac will be in politics, PBF will have already fought both and will make more money than god and retire and SSM...well... Again, this is all conjecture. Many things could change. Kelly could move up, Paul could stay and fight Spinks, etc. But I think this would allow both guys to get some real good work in, clean up their divisions and get paid in the process. I also feel that a fight between the two of them after both have done this may add a little more steam behind the fight. People are obviously doubting Kelly b/c of the past year, and people are also questioning Paul's ability to compete above 147 as a result of the Martinez fight. They could put any doubts about where they are at to rest by fighting and beating the guys listed. So just play along and don't be too hard on me. If you disagree just fill in who you would rather see in a build up to this fight :thumbsup
I'm glad you put down the bottle long enough to actually write something decent. This will be a relatively short thread, because nothing to controversial or silly in here... Until "Pavlik is King" shows up.
well there are a lot of variables and unknowns here...and this is sort of self ownage on my part since ive been saying that neither has options...but this seems relatively do-able
Honestly Cuz, I agree with alot of what you said! To me that looks like the most obvious routes for both fighters! The only variables would be the up and coming MW's trying to make a true name for themselves Jacobs, Chavez jr........ Although they might not be ready their handlers may want to get them in the mix by 2011 Your a Pavlik fan with the voice of reason!!!!! LOL!!
williams may very well want to clean out jmw as well. and yes there are some good names coming up at mw. bigbone had a good thread on the up and comers. looks promising.
I'm gonna add some spice to this thread! Because there are so many variables and components to the sport of boxing we may never ever see a PW vs KP fight! But one things for certain is that PW stood up and looked KP right in his eyes ready to fight and KP pulled out! Plain and Simple!! All that after the fact **** means nothing!!
alright ******* it won't happen b/c Paul will wilt in a heap when cotto rips that left hook to the liver (not really but its the best i could come up with on short notice)
That will be Arums cash out fight with Cotto!!! After PW is finished with him he will be an instant "gate keeper"!
that is what i was thinking. i think cotto's days of getting the pac's and ssm's of the ww division in the ring for a mega money fight may be behind him. i'm not even sure that a ssm or clottey rematch would bring him the kind of money that a title fight w/ williams would. its a good cash out fight for miguel. he'd get paid a boatload to fight williams if he can take foreman's strap...which as it turns out...miguel hasnt exactly dethroned too many fighters to take their straps. but i like miguel and it would be a good way to cash out.
Cash out fight is right. Cotto will be searching for a place on the canvas after taking all those goddamn punches... He'll be like "Goddamn! This ni99a won't stop throwing punches for ****!"
