I was working out of town over the week end, and had very limited internet access. As of this morning the proposed Pavlik/Williams fight is still just a rumour. I hope it happens. Pavlik needs it. Williams needs it. HBO needs it. I once held a different position on this fight, but after seeing that Ring Magazine has Williams at number 3 in the middleweight division I changed my mind. I actually think #3 is to low. Felix Sturm and Sebastian Sylvester are #1 and #2, and in my opinion Williams would beat them both. Williams is also #10 on Ring's P4P list. That means PWilly is the only middleweight in the P4P top 10, but he still does not get the recognition or credit he deserves. A fight with Pavlik could change that. All he has to do is answer the bell for the 10th round, and he will have done what no other middleweight could do. Even if he goes out on his sheild sometime after that, he'll get mad props and gain a boat load of fans. HBO is going to be hard pressed to compete with the Super Six. They need some good fights to stay in the running. Bute/Andrade II, Cotto/Pac, and then add Pavlik/Williams. That's a nice line up. Pavlik needs a good opponent. It seems like nearly the entire boxing world has written him off. I even read an article where the author said he was surprised that Pavlik was "willing to step up" against someone like Williams. Reality is that it is a big step up for PW, but the boxing world now under rates Pavlik even worse than they did back in 2006. I fully expect to see a man on fire when Kelly returns to the ring this fall. Williams will find out that the House of the Middleweights is still haunted by an evil ghost. In my opinion it is not a question of "if" Williams gets Pavlikated, but "when." Hopefully, when KP makes Paul the 8th man he stopped who had never been stopped before, afterward people will realize that all the roumours, lies, and bull**** over the last several months were just that, rumours, lies and bull****. KP by KO:deal
I hope Williams is ready, and I'll tell you why. If Pavlik went in a just blew PW out of the ring in a few rounds, afterward the boxing world would critisize him for beating up a welterweight. That's just the way things work. If KP systematically broke PW down over 9 or 10 rounds in a barn burner, both guys would get their props.
Well, the Williams I saw against Winky doesn't make me hold my breath. IF this fight gets signed I'll try and watch some Williams footage with more of a critical eye. I'm really not watching Williams/Wright again without a GOOD reason.
Boo, I hope the fight happens as well but Arum has said that he will not schedule a pavlik fight with williams because of how it was handled last time they were trying to set up the fight. Goosen wanted half the cash and from what ive read he still feels that way.
Do you think Jack L. would let us sit in on the film studies of PW. He could set up a viewing room in the gym for all the esb fans. :thumbsup
You're way behind the curve. Their negotiating now, and it isn't up to Arum. It's Pavlik's call. Williams is the fight HE wants. Goosen/Williams wanted 50/50. Arum/Pavlik offered 70/30 the typical champion/challenger split. They'll settle somewhere around 60/40. If Goosen insists on 50/50, that's the same as saying, "we don't want the fight. we just want some attention so we can scream about Pavlik ducking."
