It has been nearly a month since Sergio Martinez battered Paul Williams around the ring in Atlantic City. I do not hold with those who think Sergio was robbed. It was a damn close fight, and it could have gone either way, but it went into the books as a majority decision for Williams. Now it's history.

It has been 2 weeks since Pavlik returned from 10 months of going life and death with a nasty staph infection. Espino was straight off the "C" list, but he was "ranked" #3 by the WBC, and the orgs were threatening to strip Pavlik. KP needed a quick fight he could win with one good hand if he had to. Espino was game enough to force Pavlik to use the still ailing left hand repeatedly, and it appeared to hold up just fine.

After Pavlik scored a 5th round TKO, he stood in the center of the ring and said, "Paul Williams, you're not the most feared man in boxing. You got a guy right here in Youngstown Ohio that wants you." Arum backed Pavlik's play by telling Team Williams and Goosen to re-sign the deal they already agreed to, or "shut their damn mouths."

Two weeks have passed since then, and the only thing we've heard from Goosen or Team Williams is a rambling and contradictory statement Goosen made in an interview with "the scene." Goosen said he talked to PW and his trainer George Peterson, and they all agreed the goal should be to take Paul back to 147. However, in the same statement Goosen said PW will fight anybody from 147-160, but he will not fight Pavlik unless Top Rank agrees to a 50/50 co-promotion.

Meanwhile, Felix Sturm made a bunch of noise about wanting a fight in the USA with Pavlik. He hooked up with Freddy Roach, and most thought that improved the chances of a Pavlik/Sturm fight happening. However, Sturm promptly signed a 10 fight deal with a German television station. So much for "a big fight in the USA" Felix!

Dibella made a statement that Arum called him about a potential Pavlik/Martinez fight. Sergio made his desire to fight KP known way back last summer, so that is not surprising. DiBella refused to disclose any details of what he and Arum talked about.

The last time we got any real news on the situation at 160 was the rambling and disjointed Goosen statement on December 20th. The silence is deafening.

Yeah. I 'pinged' a source today. Always throw out the first name that comes up when you are talking about Arum though.... So, I think Martinez is not happening. Who knows.

Well, it sounds pretty much like a working holiday for Mr. Arum given all of the Pac/May crap going on. We can hope it is Williams. My guess is that would push things back a bit. We'll see.

These fights have to be made, but Pavlik has to be sure he is clear of the staph infection. He had an easy fight back from injury, but since beating Taylor he has only had easy fights, apart from losing to Hopkins.

its really ironic that you leave out the fact that pavlik tried to push the fight that he claims he wants so badly back 3 times and then fought like 1 week after the date he proposed it for...

Sturm can still fight in the USA. Signing a 20 million deal is a no-brainer. The Klischkos are also signed to RTL and fight in the US from time to time. Will take some time though, since they will want to have 1 fight first to 'introduce' him to the new channel...

I honestly do not know where Williams can go from here. He will not get a fight at 147. If he goes to 154 then he would need to rematch Martinez. If he goes to 160 then he has Pavlik staring at him. His bet bet would be to go back to 154 and rematch Martinez. If he wins then he should just clean out the division until he feels he can compete at 160.
