I think the Taylor fight illustrates pretty well how this one would go. Jermain won all the rounds that were contested in the middle of the ring, because he's a big, strong MW whom Winky couldn't back up. What did happen in the other rounds was that Taylor -- due to Wright's physical and mental pressure -- backed into the ropes voluntarily, at which point he got outfought. But he still managed to bust up Winky's face. Pavlik obviously has much better stamina than Taylor, and he never fights going backward. Perhaps he'd be bothered by Winky's pressure to some extent, but I just don't see it. Kelly would at the minimum hold his ground in the middle of the ring, at which point he'd throw more and land the much harder shots through Winky's guard. Pavlik probably would work at range to use his length advantage, and power, straight punching and workrate would enable him to win this cleanly, if not by KO.
Winky UD in an ugly, ugly fight, although Pavlik could still win if he doesn't get gassed/discouraged. Winky has had a real tendency to fade late in fights for the past couple years.
Taylor was backing up almost all night; what fight were you watching? Also, the most well-informed boxing fans know that Winky won that fight clearly. Taylor backed up because he had no other way of being effective. Pavlik will have the same problem, but will not be able to back up. However, Winky will almost certainly not be as capable as he was against Taylor and as a result Pavlik will break him down.
Yea Winky will win this fight by a close decision. I don't know why people think Pavlik will win this fight so easy. :?
I disagree. Taylor won nearly every exchange in the middle of the ring. Winky had no desire to be there, but he couldn't move Taylor back. At times he did and many times Jermain moved there on his own, something he has done his entire career against A-level fighters, even when not pressured. There is no consensus as to who won that fight, no matter whether you attempt to fabricate one. Pavlik won't be pushed backward on a consistent basis and will outwork Winky in addition to outpunching him. Not too confident this fight actually will happen, though.
Because Winky is up against Pavlik, Rust and Old Father Time. Even Winky's defence can't handle 3 on 1.
In other words, Winky was the superior ring general. Couldn't move Taylor back? Do you seriously believe that Taylor moves into corners and onto the ropes because it's fun to do so? The fact is, Taylor has bad footwork and an even worse sense of space and ring generalship, thus he is easily pressured backwards. As Winky did so, unless one believes that Taylor was for some reason looking to help Winky out. I'm not saying there is an overall consensus on who won the fight. I'm just saying there is a consensus amongst well-informed boxing fans. True. Winky was past his sell-by date against Hopkins and will now be totally shot, inactive and lacking fire inside. I hope it won't.
No offense to Wright fans, but he has not won since December of 06' has not even fought in over a year. To me he doesnt even deserve a title shot. He needs to get in the ring and earn it.
U.D. meaning; Undoubtedly damaged unbelievably destroyed unrecognisably dead unfortunately deceased utterly decimated ushering death This is fun, anyone like to join in.:?
Oh it's about time! He's got to be realistic about money if he still wants to get a fight. Now time to shut the **** up and sign the dotted lines.
Taylor has done this against numerous fighters, which was my point -- he simply fights this way. Hell, he backed up at times against Ouma! When he did stand his ground in the middle of the ring, he outfought the Winkster. Agreed on Taylor's defects. However, I believe these are self-inflicted to a greater extent than you. Zing! Allow me to re-state: There is no consensus among well-informed boxing fans as to who won that fight. I'd say the majority of the good people thought Winky did, although there were plenty of draws and some votes for Taylor as well. Right. Strong MWs with power and workrate are going to cause him big problems. Depending on his stamina, I still believe he'd have a chance against Abraham. Arthur himself likes to fight off the ropes and lacks workate.
