I believe your gonna be in for a huge suprise in this fight then. If he doesn't knock Winky out he loses this fight. I don't see him winning a decision against Winky. Don't get me wrong I love Pavilks style but he's getting alot of hype off of just one big win. He has to prove a little more for me to put him in an elite status like that and beaten somebody like Winky would make me a full believer but I just don't see that happening.
I believe Winky will be motivated and in great shape for this fight and you make a lot of great points about fighters losing there confidence against Winky. So we will see how Pavlik handles it. A lot of people are just going off what Pavlik did against Taylor and believe me Winky will now fold like that. Yea Winky is gonna have to really win rounds too because most close rounds will most likely go to Pavlik because he is the hype right now and because of his exciting style. Winky style is not liked at all and I believe thats why a lot of people are going against him on this thread.
The best fighter that Winky has beaten who is close to Kelly's size is Trinidad. I think Pavlik hits harder than Trinidad and is busier. He is definitely a bigger dude. I don't know for sure if he's more skilled(than Trinidad) If it goes down it should be an interesting fight.
Okay -- I read all the posts about Pavlik getting discouraged by Winky, and one poster even suggested Pavlik might get "gassed." There is absolutley no evidence to suggest that Pavlik would get discouraged, and there is certainly no evidence to suggest he'll gas out. Winky brings a good jab, a good chin, and great defense. Winky is 5' 10" with 72" of reach. If this fight happens in September, Winky, at 36 years of age, will be coming off a 14 month lay off. Pavlik is over 6' 2" with 75" reach. He also has a helluva jab and a decent chin. Unlike Winky, Pavlik has been very active. Youth, size, strength, power, work rate, and stamina all go to Pavlik. McKart went 32 rounds with Wright. He lasted less than 6 rounds with Pavlik. Yes, Bronco was past his best when he fought Pavlik, but Father Time hasn't exactly left Winky untouched. Taylor held Winky to a draw. Pavlik left Taylor slumped in a corner inside 7 rounds, and then beat him by a UD in the rematch. If you want to add it up, it amounts to 2 common opponents, 7 fights, and a collective 69 rounds of boxing. It also tells us Winky ain't bringin' nothin' Kelly can't handle. Pavlik wins be a very clear UD, or late TKO.
If Wright had been active and fighting.. Then I would prob lean towards him to stink up the joint Via Decision. But being his inactivity since 07' and his age (36?) I tend to lean towards a Kelly Pavlik T.K.O. Mid round's..
I think you're probably right about the TKO, but I think it might take 10 rounds. Winky has a good chin, and amazing defense. If it was a prime Winky, and he was a natural 160, I'd have a different opinion. But, this is Winky at 36, and fighting above his best weight.
OMG, i hope this fight happens. But i think it's a bad move for Winky to get in the ring without a tune up. He last fought almost a year ago. But being a fan of Winky, i would love to see it.
