Why is does it seem that he's getting a free pass for facing a 43yr old Hopkins who's coming off a loss?

Calzaghe was hammered for taking a fight with Bernard, so i logged on this morning expecting much of the same hate being fired towards Pavlik but there isn't any.

    Can somebody please explain why?

How does a boxing website/ forum determine who Kelly fights?

i meant the fact that calzaghe got the predictable stick for fighting an old man, whereas kelly's a brave hero.

Here is the list of the top guys that Pavlik could fight:

    Calzaghe
    Jones
    Abraham
    Kessler
    Hopkins

Every one of those guys had a dance partner besides B-Hop.

What is so bad about fighting Hopkins when he is still a top 10 pound for pound guy with Legendary status?

The top 2 guys are Abraham and Calzaghe but they are busy.

Personally, I cant wait to go to this fight next week!

Hopkins is a money, fight which he can win and this sets up Calzaghe Pavlik nicely...

Hatton probably takes the most overrated honor around here.

Please see my post above as to why the Pav lik - Hopkins fight was made: Bernard was the 3rd best option, no big deal.

i think it is a good fight and a good test.

outside abraham at middleweight and mundine, who says he is fighting there but is campaigning at 168 as far as i can see, 160 as it has been for the last 10 years is dearth of talent and money fights.

so pavlik stepping up 10lbs to take on hopkins should be applauded not critisized.

stylewise it is not good for pavlik as it was not for calzaghe and while i hope pavlik wins because he is good for boxing and good to watch , it is not a forgone conclusion which virtually every other possible match up available would have been.

calzaghe was and still is critisized for the hopkins fight , but that IMO is by people who are either new to boxing/watch boxing to hate or simply do not understand style match ups.

people who understand boxing, and there are a lot on esb called the calzaghe v hopkins fight as it went down bar perhaps the first round knockdown.

i am not sure if pavlik will get the props from my side of the atlantic and perhaps america itself if he beats hopkins , but he should , even if it is close.

There wasn't a whole lot of criticism towards Calzaghe for taking that fight. There were, however, a bunch of Calzaghe fans who claimed that it would be a walk in the park and that Calzaghe would destroy Hopkins.

scuse me but there was loads of critisicm. and when he won he got no credit at all from the usual suspects on here, just the same meaningless ridicule . the same usual suspects who i'm sure will crow from the rooftops when kelly wins.

There wasn't a harder fight out there for Pavlik given whom everyone else was fighting.

Also, Hopkins is the hardest fight tactically and technically full stop for anyone from 160-175, even if he only lasts for 4-6 rounds or so. Pavlik has a lot to learn from a fighter like Hopkins.

Hopkins could beat him if Pavlik isn't as good as we hope he is, even if he has legs for only half the fight.

I was very impressed with Pavlik when I heard he took that fight, which is not great risk/reward by any means, even if he wins, because Hopkins makes anyone look foolish. I hope he wins and if he does, I will be even more impressed.

Find me some examples. Bring out the threads

There were countless Calzaghe fans who said that Hopkins was old and washed up. They said if Calzaghe didn't stop Hopkins or if Hopkins won more than two rounds, they wouldn't give Calzaghe credit. Why the hell would non Calzaghe fans give Joe props when Joe's own fans did nothing but talk about how easy the fight would be and how overrated and old Hopkins was? I mean many of these guys said that they fully expected Hopkins to get stopped, some even said he would quit on his stool.
