How would you rate it? Taylor is not a big big puncher yet he had Pavlik almost out yet in the rematch he took Taylors best shots.

Not many world champion who have phenominal power have sturdy chins.

Benn, Jackson, Tito, Hearns to name but a few hit like trucks but didnt like being hit themselves too much...

i think Kelly Pavlik is much the same.

Good chin, not much of a defense though

I think Pavlik has a damn good chin, even when considering the Taylor fiasco.

The thing is, I think Jermain is a pretty good puncher and just doesn't utilize it most of the time. The same thing has been said about him many times: tremendous physical talent and capabilities, but lacking the ability to make use of it, and any real killer instinct. My point is, I've almost never seen him sell out the way he did when he went for it in the second round and tried to knock Pavlik out. I was shocked, and I guess Kelly was too. :yep

Should be something between 'Avarege' and 'Granite'

    It's okay to good

Problem is he needs certified granite with that "defense"

    pavlik has a good chin.

he took shots from miranda he walked onto flush and came through them.

he took a volley v taylor and was able to recover .

he has very poor head movement so is susceptable to full force blows and does not ride with them, so it does increase his opponents power.

but chin wise he is fine.

I'd say above average, but not granite.

Way above average, but not total granite.

He's got a good enough chin to stay up for big shots, his chin isn't really his problem, I will quote Cus D'Amato:

"All that matters is how you react, when you get hit, is when you have to be smart and react good"

Did Pavlik react good when Taylor stunned him in the first fight? No, he tried to show he wasnt hurt and got smashed over and over, hope he's learned his lesson, like I said, a good chin, but he can't let someone take free shots over and over.

Good post! Taylor hurt Pavlik, but he did not hurt him BAD until Kelly stuck his freaking chin out to show he wasn't hurt!! Plus Kelly ate Miranda's best shots like they were Hershey's Kisses! This poll should have given us more choices. I voted "Average" but I actually think Pavlik's chin is way above average, but something short of "Granite."
