I rarely start threads, but this was just something that bugged the hell out of me from the time I saw it. I'm sure everyone who saw the fight knows exactly what I'm talking about. Kelly comes back after the 9th, trying to get out that he can't see. His corner cuts him off and essentially tells him to shut the **** up and send him back. Am I the only one who had a problem with this? Pavlik couldn't see. It's irresponsible and unprofessional of a corner to keep sending their guy out there with that knowledge, especially since it was clear that Martinez wasn't going to stop exploiting that. Kelly threw 12 punches in that round. 12. At one point Martinez rattled off what seemed like 30 unanswered shots at a good connect rate. It was pretty clear that something was genuinely wrong. When you have to cut off your own fighter from saying what's wrong, what you've just witnessed with your own two eyes, because you don't want the fight to end, it's ****ing selfish. It's easy to be gutsy and tough when you're not the one risking a permanent eye injury. The fight should've never gotten to the scorecards because they shouldn't have sent him out there 4 more times.
Was just about to start a thread on this. I agree. Loew's lack of compassion tonight for his fighter was disgusting. He exposed himself as the slimey greaseball I always suspected him to be. Riding Kelly's coat tails. It's evident that he views Pavlik as nothing more than a meal ticket for him. Rather than being concerned for his fighters well being, he sent Pavlik out in the 11th and 12th round hoping that he would land that hail mary shot. Knowing full well that his fighter was most likely going to sustain a vicious beating.
Agree and good thread. I was thinking the same when I saw the blood shooting out of his right eye, HORRIBLE cut man and I have never been fond of Double Jack Loewe.
Pavlik did recover a bit in round 11 or combo of martinez taking a break.....from the ass beating that was round 10....it was after that round pavlik wanted to quit.....
i agreed with Heralds card but when the fighter does not want to fight because he cant see you dont force him to that can be very dangerous
Fighters always look for ways to quit/justify a poor performance midfight (as the easiest thing to do mentally is to perform poorly, take punches and throw dickall back). Jack Leow was right in telling him to shut his mouth and switch on. The first time it occured in the fight Pavlik was still in quite a good position, so it was very much justified by Leow.
hes a fighter dumbass. thats what they are trained to do. if that was the case, arturo gattis fights all should have been stopped before he had a chance to come back. ive never seen so many ***** ass posters on these boards. its not baseball, not football, not soccer. its fighting. 12 rounds. a punch a way from changing something. hes the champion, hes not gonna ***** out like that. he risks injury when he steps in the ring. go watch another sport if youre gonna cry when you see blood you ****ing baby atsch
i was watching this fight with my pops and his friends and he was saying the same thing.. pissed at Pavs trainer for not stopping the fight, KP clearly stated he couldnt see and KP trainer jus seemed to ignore it and not listen to his fighter.. kinda dangerous i dont like that myself .. protect your fighter... tomorrow is another day.
Exactly what i said after the Hopkins debacle. His team are amateurish at best and a health risk at worst. Personally i think its time Pavlik hung his gloves up,he's clearly not the fighter he was pre Hopkins, and his do or die metallity isn't a healthy one.He was the man at 160 mainly because he was able to boil down to the weight but still hold physical/size advantages over his opponents, last night he was schooled by a welter.
haha I kinda agree Leow did the right thing to send him back out there....Pavlik did recover from the ass beating he got in round 10....he still lost round 11....but it wasn't enough to warrant stoppage on cuts...
Thing is, Kelly has a rematch clause. Loew knows that. Why not just take the cuts loss in a fight that was close up to that point, save your man the punishment and risk of permanent injury, and just force the rematch? I'm sorry, I just think they failed utterly in the corner's primary role- to protect their fighter. Because of the rematch clause, there was absolutely no reason to send him out there as a one-eyed punching bag.
