They're airing an old event back from 2000 which is featuring Pavlik's debut against Eric Tzand.. From what I seen in the preview, I couldn't even tell it was him, young as hell with hair lol.. The card also has Margarito vs David Kamua.. It's on ESPN Classic now..
He put Tzand down with a body shot that had him grimmacing in pain, rolling around the ring as well..pretty good stuff:good
Interesting how much Pavlik's handspeed and mobility has seemed to drop off in the last 8 years even though he's still a young man and in his boxing prime. At 18 he looked almost twice as quick as he is now.
i have this fight on my PC. Although I'm not the biggest Pav fan i have like 13 of his fights lol he was 18, 6ft3, and 155 lbs WTF what a beast Julio Diaz, Antonio Margarito, Martin Castillo, Kelly Pavlik, and Antonio Diaz all on the same card. Not competitive fights but some nice names when looking back.
This was the first time I saw this fight.. 18 years old and had just graduated from high school 2 weeks ago prior to his pro debut and they threw him in there with someone much older.. He looked impressive to me for his first fight.. Using a variety of punches, going to the head and body.. He did seem to be faster when he first started, but he has improved a lot..
they threw him in there with someone who was 0-1-1. Older doesn't mean anything as Pavlik already had amateur experience. from wikipedia
That reminds me, I remember hearing during the HBO special for Taylor-Pavlik 1 that one of Pavlik's first opponents actually pissed himself in the ring...was Jack full of **** on that, or did it actually happen?
ahh so he did have amateur experience.. i was thinking they threw a kid in there soon as he got out of school.. i was still impressed from what i saw in his debut.. he's really came a long ways since then.. according to boxrec, his next 3 fights were TKO's in the first round and had like 15 straight T/KOs.. pav's a beast..
It is overrated ******. You just don't know what good power looks like. He's still a good fighter though.
