Pavliks Hometown Interview after the Fight

All the love for Paul Williams and Sergio Martinez sitting on this forum right along side all the hate for Pavlik is a pretty big contradiction.

Williams and Martinez fought a close fight. Most thought it could go either way. I had PDub squeaking it out. Tons of people thought Martinez edged it. A lot of people thought a draw would have been fine.

Pavlik lost by 3 points. There isn't any kind of huge gap between these 3 guys, and it is foolish to act like there is.

 

PAvlik didn't lose by 3 points, and the knockdown wasn't a knockdown.

 

i dont see how pavlik can be champ again, he cant beat fighter with movement and good boxers.he was post tp be unstopable at 160.and was out boxed by a blown up 154 pounder.he came in the fight a light heavy weight at 178, so he going to aleast have to move up to 168 and those guys are monster in that divsion.good luck kelly, good luck !

 

If the guy has a problem making weight below 180, he should fight at cruiser, then.

 

From that interview, it sounds like the only thing he is even considering changing is his weight class.

His limited style + his very limited team will = disaster at 168.

If he wants to continue, he should at least try hooking up with a real trainer & going to a Big Bear type place where their is really nothing to do other than train.

As much as I can't stand him as a fighter, I don't want to see the guy ruin his life.

If even 1/4th of the rumours are true, he is on his way to doing just that.

 

The 180 was a reference to his walking around weight. He used to walk around about 175, weigh in 160 on the button, and then enter the ring about 169-170. If you add 5 pounds to what used to be "normal," he can't make weight.

 

Kelly Pavlik has a bright future ahead of him































as a commentator.

 

It doesn't matter how many points it was by, it was a clear loss. For example, I had Martinez winning by a round against Williams, but I accept that the fight was difficult to score and could have been interpreted in a way in which Williams was a winner by a similarly close margin.

However, I had Marquez winning v Pacquiao II by a round aswell, yet I feel it was a more decisive win because I feel the rounds were relatively easy to score.

The fact is, Pavlik lost clearly. And he didn't lose clearly by a round or two, he lost by a good 4 or 5 rounds.

 

That guy was so obviously lost I wasn't going to respond to him at all.

Nah. HBO wouldn't allow it. They have to balance out the bunch of white guys with at least one black and I think there would be some real outrage if they tried to put Kelly in blackface and pass him off ala Jolsen. :yep






I'm one of the few that prefer Lewis to Steward. I love Lewis's simple analysis style. He might not be the most grammatically correct guy, not that Steward has him beat by much there, but you know EXACTLY what he means and he delivers it from a fighters prospective. No pretense.
