Kelly's cutman definitely ****ed it up, but Sergio stepped on the gas and took that title.

    VARG and Eze, good points.

I don't understand why people start screaming "excuses excuses" when the cut is brought up. Having difficulty fighting effectively while there's blood in your eyes isn't an excuse, it's a FACT. The cut that blurred Pavlik's vision is brought up because it is a FACT and these things happen in fights, it's not brought up as an excuse for Kelly's loss and to degrade Sergio's achievment.

Martinez turned it up in round 9 and won convincingly, he did what he had to do and big kudos to him for a huge victory. That said, the cornermen of a fighters play an important role and if they are not helping their fighter, they definitely get part of the blame for his loss. Of course Pavlik has flaws and they cost him the fight, but Loew and the cutman did a terrible job in there. This is a fact, I don't just throw it out there to take away something from Sergio's victory.

It becomes an excuse when someone , like Kelly's managers, says "oh, we would have won the fight if..."

true, its hard to say really. I think Kelly got more discouraged from the cut than the actual affect it had on his fighting. Perhaps he couldn't see and he quit from there but there is more to it than the cutman.

I think if you don't take the cut into consideration you have a very short sighted view of the fight. Cuts happen though and Kelly has to learn to fight with them.

there is NO doubt that the cutman was in WAY over his head. Had the bleeding been under control KP might have done better but I think the out come would have been the same. SM stepped on the gas in the final rounds while KP started to fade, with or without the cuts KP was having a hard time with the movement and the angles

The cutman is to blame... along with the ENTIRE TEAM for not having a better gameplan and being able to adapt mid fight to the end

The cut was only part of it. Kelly is a little mechanical and that is where the main blame goes. Again we the fans overrated a fighter. We do not wait for a fighter to prove anything anymore, and then when the fighter loses it is an upset.

Exactly. I knew excuses will come into play. Sure the cutman did not do a good job of stopping the blood but remember he has to work 2 bad cuts from the left eye and the right eye. <<<You people act like it be easy to stop the cut. The bottomline is Martinez beat the **** out of Pavlik. And i knew if Pavlik lose, THERE WILL BE EXCUSES!!!!! If anybody want to keep complaining about that excuse? Well go hangout with booradley cause he needs a shoulder to cry on.

To be fair, he did squeeze Pavlik's eyebrows with a bathroom towel.
Plan B was for his mom to kiss the booboo and make it all better.

But... Pavlik blaming the bicycle, Loew being a douche & dogging his own fighter, and Dunkin blaming everyone but himself?
    Shocking!
In post-fight interviews, though, Pavlik is classy enough to blame his opponents for the loss.

It reminds me of those "Top Ten Reasons" shows on ESPN Classic... for Bode Miller, one of the top 5 excuses was Vince Lombardi.

Take it easy. Martinez beat Pavlik 115-112, which is not a dissimilar margin to how some people scored Martinez/Williams. He won fair and square. The cutman was incompetent.

Same nonsense every time Pavlik loses. It's never that he was outfought, but rather that he nearly died from illness, has a bad cutman, etc.. It's laughable. Hire a professional corner or shut the **** up. I like Pavlik, but the excuses get tiresome.

Bode don't need excuses anymore. hands down the greatest American skier of all time and amongst the worlds best all time. He was that before the Olympics, he just happened to verify that to the general public.

Pavlik needs a new cutman, a new trainer, and a new promoter. His promoter keeps picking the worst possible opponents match ups style wise Pavlik could possibly fight.
