I think the "caliber" is just right. I really don't understand why so many people want Pavlik to fight Vera. The guy has been knocked out twice, and out boxed 3 times. He's not as tough as Zertuche or Zuniga. He doesn't have the ring IQ of McKart. Doesn't hit as hard as Miranda. He's no where near as fast as JT. I mean what the hell would that fight prove. Pavlik/Lopez will at least give us some idea where Kelly's head is. It should also tell us something about speed and power at the higher weight. It serves a purpose. Pavlik/Vera or Pavlik/Spina would be pointless.
Really, boo? Now Lopez is being built up as "dangerous"? For those wondering about video, there's some on page 2 of this thread. http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=292705 ^ That was on Monday, boo...wth happened? Now Lopez is a dangerous high-risk choice of opponent? :yep
They just handed an undefeated light heavyweight the opportunity of a lifetime fighting a guy who was a middleweight one short year ago, and has not been active during that year. Of course he's dangerous. I expect Pavlik to win, but fighting this guy is a gutsy move. What if Pavlik smacks him with a flush right hand, and he doesn't even blink?
Then Pavlik will most likely pitch a 100-90 shutout, falling back on his vastly greater skill and experience. :yep Those glimpses we had of Lopez's power don't exactly suggest "puncher's chance" against someone as sturdy as Pavlik, either. Don't get me wrong, I wish Kelly the best in his comeback but this is what it is...a fairly safe starting-off point. If Lopez actually wins this, then Pavlik coming back at any weight is just a bad idea.
So...Pavlic is fighting a Bum who hasn't even fought a live body yet, while somebody on here tries to pass the guy off as a threat? :huh That all speaks for itself.
You're making a lot of assumptions based on very little video evidence. In a recent debate about another fight it was you who said, "You can't assume a guy is no good just because he's untested. All we know is that he's untested." I think you are also making the same mistake I made when I made my initial comments. You're assuming that Pavlik will have a good camp, and enter the ring fully prepared. There is no guarantee that either of those things will happen. Furthermore, recent Jack Leow comments make it sound like they do not plan for KP to show off his boxing skills. They plan for Kelly to come in and just run right over the guy. Trying to bulldoze the naturally bigger man could prove to be a big mistake.
Looks like it could be an interesting fight. Lopez certainly likes to come forward & let his hands go. Hopefully, he'll walk right into a KP righthand BOMB. I just hope Kelly has firmed up his beer gut. Picture in Ring mag from the Martinez fight really shows it off badly.
