Source: http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/boxing/news/story?id=4758417 Quite a few things stuck out for me when I checked ESPN about the fight. I put some in bold and underlined it. ''Bray said the plan was to circle to the right and jab for the first four or five rounds, and Espino quickly scrapped that idea.'' ~What an understatement. It seems more like the plan was to jump on Pavlik and prove he wasn't near 100% yet by throwing everything at him but the kitchen sink. "As soon as Miguel got hit, the warrior came out and he went toe to toe," Bray said. "He didn't stick to the gameplan. He's a real warrior. Kelly Pavlik is a great champion and a big puncher. We fell into his trap." ~That's not exactly a trap. That's just...what everyone...what...I mean...Pavlik's secret trap is he's a hitter? How crafty he is to have kept that a secret all these years. He really pulled the wool over their eyes. ...But, seriously, thanks to Espino for being the antithesis of Kevin Johnson. I think everyone appreciated that. "Espino wasn't impressed by Pavlik's punching power, and he didn't recall ever taking a step back because of a blow from the champ." ~Didn't he take a knee though? And he was stopped for the first time. What does Pavlik have to do to impress this guy? "Pavlik will now turn his attention to Williams, whom he was supposed to fight Oct. 3. The infection postponed the fight until Dec. 5, and it was canceled when Pavlik realized he still couldn't make a fist with his injured left hand." ~We're leaving things out. "Realized he still couldn't make a fist". ...Good God. "Gee, I just realized I can't make a fist just now." Right. I can see that exactly. There was no deception involved in that camp. Couldn't be helped, he just noticed out of the blue he couldn't close that hand. "Gee whiz. Golly Gosh. Hey guys...check this out. Sorry, Paul. We couldn't see that coming."
Its accumulative power and not one shot. Team Pavlik should only go after guys who come forward, a fighter like Bute would be a nightmare for Kelly.
I believe Bute would be a bad fight for Kelly too (As would any 168 elite) but I think it's well known he's very heavy-handed.
168lb would be an extremely hard division for Pavlik to conquer. I'd be extremely impressed if he could do it.
Bute would stop Pavlik. Once Kelly gives up his size edge, he's ****ed. And Bute is bigger than him, in addition to being much faster, a southpaw, and a better boxer.
like you I would be very impressed if KP could conquer super middle, and I also agree that it is doubtful that he could .Imo the 168 division looks as good as it has ever done and there could be a lot of "Bad nights" ahead for Pavlik at that weight. I am a fan of Kelly's and I would love to see him stay at middle, at least for the time being, with the obvious choice of Williams as his next opponent!
I agree! Bute truly is a class act and whilst I would be cheering on Pavlik in the fight, a sense of foreboding would be constant.
I wouldn't put my money on him stopping Pavlik but I don't think Pavlik, tall as he is, wears the higher weight well at all. I think he is just a good, solid, natural middleweight champ, at least considering the weigh-in and fight time differences that are commonly accepted now. I think Bute would befuddle him though. But we know he can be hurt, so Pavlik would have a chance. I'd be really interested in Abraham/Pavlik first if he decided to move up. Should've been done much sooner.
I'm not sure about that. I'd pick Bute over Pavlik, but exchanging punches is about the worst way to fight KP he could dream up. And don't expect Pavlik to walk into a vicious counter the way Andrade did: he comes in methodically, behind the jab.
Were you born stupid enough that just because a writer on deadline comes up with a line that he thinks is good it is fact? Grow up.
Espino can talk all he wants, but he looked impressed when he went down. Pavlik, on the other hand, seemed unaffected by Espino's power. More important question - when the f()ck is KP going to leave Youngstown and get a decent trainer?
I wasn't born stupid, and I don't believe it was the writer coming up with a line he thinks was good. In case you were born stupid, let me explain that I'm obviously saying there is a deliberate attempt at revisionist history in masking what happened in that camp...Did you not understand that or are you deliberately acting obtuse?
