Im not here to make excuses. Bernard fought an incredible, masterful fight. Congratulations to him. Im only stating a fact on weight and the vital point it made in the fight. After weighing in at 170 on Friday, Hopkins tipped the scales at 185 before Saturdays fight. Pavlik, meanwhile, gained just three pounds to 172 from Friday to Saturday. One of his biggest advantages at middleweight is the size difference. On Saturday, that advantage went to Hopkins. The difference was, Hopkins was trying to get down to 170 and with Kelly, hes 160 and hes trying to put on weight. Pavlik fought a bigger, stronger guy in a bigger weight category. He wasnt able to throw punches and it may very well be because he was packing too much weight. Bottom line--pavlik is not a fighter past the middlweight division. I take nothing away from bernard but pavlik was out of his realm and that was his downfall. Let the haters commence.
Hopkins was 180 on fight night, Pavlik was 174. Also, Pavlik did not have to put on weight for this fight as he probably walks around at about 180 or more.
You'r statement is a lie mister,Hopkins came in on the night at 180 and Pavlik at 174.Find a bigger excuse and a TRUE one.Pavlik was the favorite and was fighting a elder. He is just limited
In the future they had plans for him but they wanted to stay at 60 and rule the division for a couple years.
I saw an interview or maybe an HBO countdown, don't remember exactly but I know I heard that mr. nationalist ''Kelly walks around at 176''-is this quote good?
This is the same old tired excuse. It wouldnt matter if this fight was at 100lbs or 250lbs Hopkins would ALWAYS tap that ass. Pavlik couldnt get off because he is a crude slugger as iv said time and again. This loss aside no one expected him to be so comprehensively outboxed but the facts remain BOXING is the name of the game.
no excuse on weight for pavlik, maybe he just fought a better boxer! Pavlik is one-dimensional, so much so that when that dimension is gone he cant even win a single round! face facts, as good as pavlik is, he was over-rated! If pavlik wants to rule that division i`d say its time for a new trainer.....
