Well, Pavlik usually out-weighs his opponents by more than 6 pounds. Is it more fair than this one?

Well Pavlik and Loew got it catastrophically wrong then, didn't they?

If you don't want to recognise the failure of fighters down the ages to make the jump up in weight then thats your issue, but please don't accuse me of discrediting Hopkins' performance on saturday as my statement "on current form Bernard Hopkins at any weight would beat Pavlik" just about covers that.

I've wondered about this for a while now. Not that Jack is bad, but has he gone as far as he can go? He was spouting the same advice as he did for Pav/Taylor 2. "Throw the double jab". I think Kelly stated the double jab was getting him hit in the middle rounds. If one jab isn't working, do you want to give a counter puncher TWO time units too counter?

His motivation level has been 'up' since becoming champ. I think for the Lockett fight he lost the weight with just diet and training and no 'fat suit' until at least the last week. I think he was at 163 about 7 days out from that fight.

I won't vouch for the accuracy.

The consensus afterward was Pavlik will stay at middleweight for the near future. After weighing in at 170 on Friday, Hopkins tipped the scales at 185 before Saturday’s fight. Pavlik, meanwhile, gained just three pounds — to 172 — from Friday to Saturday. One of his biggest advantages at middleweight is the size difference. On Saturday, that advantage went to Hopkins.

My bad if u felt accused but the trend of this thread seems to insinuate that weight was more of an issue for the loss than in reality it was experience .

But on the matter of history and weight well all I have to say is that's a legendary excuse !

I heard it regarding the Toney Jones fight and several others ..But for every failure there is a success .I have not done the comparisons but if a fighter is willing to make that jump its on them .If they end up losing then the lesson is there is no need to go back but for those who are successful they keep going !

Like I said before if Kelly had won by KO the weight would automatically become his new majic potion ..Weight imo was not the issue here ..Experience ..

It isn't an excuse, its a fact, check it out for yourself...I don't give two ****s about Kelly Pavlik, so if you think that I am some sort of nuthugging fanboy then you are just plain wrong.

"But for every failure there is a success" Not at MW to LH there isn't.

The Youngstown newspaper says Hopkins was 185 and Pavlik was 172. HBO, the people who actually weighed the fighters and not the hometown newspaper of one of the fighters, said Hopkins was 180 and Pavlik was 174. I doesn't take a genius to figure which source is reliable and which one is flat out lying in order to provide an excuse for one of the fighters.

Struggling to make 160 does not mean he'd be better @ 170.

I was simply providing the source of the 185 figure, hence the disclaimer.

Kelly just didnt have to dry out to make the 170 like he usually does to make 160. He came into the ring roughly the same or slightly more than he normally does which should help him because he doesnt need to dehydrate and rehydrate as much. The only weight issue is Bernard is naturally stronger than him which is one of the things he would get credit for if he had won. Too bad he lost handily

Well considering that Kelly walks around 180 its not like he killed himself to make 170 ..
