I don't ever see Pavlik stepping into a punch. First, he doesn't have to. He has enough power. Second, it would affect his 'recovery' time for a defensive position. If he doesn't have the fastest hands in the world then he has to recover his position in another way. Thus, he shortens up and is almost never out of control.
His footwork sucks so much that he's only ko'd 30-34 opponenets. If he had even decent footwork he would have been able to land often enough and with enough authority to take the other 4 out too. As soon as his management quits handpicking his opponents, he'll be exposed.
How can a fighter throw and be accurate with his deadly combination if his footwork is slow or ****? To be able to throw punches with power . . . your base should be stable and the body in proper position. So footwork is not Pavlik's best quality but it's definitely good.
Not all of us who are a bit critical are saying his foot work sucks. I think it's often under-rated, but I also see it as an area where Kelly can make substantial improvement. Just imagine a version of Kelly Pavlik that never falls in and very rarely gets out of position. SCARY!!
His footwork isn't the best, but its certainly not as terrible as some are making it out to be. Exaggerating to make a point is so pointless.
If anybody of you brainless noobs tries to throw punches . . . more so if it's combination punches . . . while your body is out of balance because your feet is not in the right position . . . you'll find yourselves hitting the canvas on your own doing. That's how simple I would described it. In short . . . Pavlik who can throw power combinations in succesions and with authority has a very good footwork to be able to do that. :yep Now . . . anybody who disputes that is mentally impaired. :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl
Kelly pavlik's footwork is perfect for his fighting style, the more time your feet stay flat on the floor the more time your in position to throw powerful punches. He takes really short steps to conserve energy while cutting the ring, meanwhile his opponents bounce all over the ring trying to look pretty while wasting precious energy. For an example of what I mean watch round 12 of Tito vs Oscar.
Read your post with great interest and think I understood what you explained. It would be nice and convenient if you could add one or more links to Pavlik clips that underlines your point. For example, add a link and say how many seconds into the clip one needs to look. If you can do that I believe a strong case has been made for the deciding role Pavliks footwork might have.:good
Very good. Sometimes he goes straight legged, doesn't bend his knees enough and this contributes to him being off balance. However he can move, pivot off in ring centre or cut the ring off. Nothing sensational but good solid footwork.
Precisely. The idiots in this forum might be comparing the guy's footworks to PBF, Spinks or Calderon when they say "fast footwork". :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl
There's a difference between fast footwork and good footwork. He's a professional boxer so of course he can shift his balance, but in terms of footwork as an advantage (which the original thread was about if he was to fight Calzaghe or Kessler), Pavlik does not have these tools. I appreciate that he isnt a dancer but there are slow movers who had great footwork, Pavlik doesnt have this. He is a little slow and plodding in my opinion.
