It just occured to me that no one makes more excuses for thier fighter than Calzaghe fans. Pacquiao and Mayweather fans are nuthuggers, because they have seen brilliant performances by both at the CHAMPIONSHIP level. Meanwhile Calzaghe fans are trying to defend his record. Has Joe ever beaten anyone who was ever top 10 p4p?

No question hes a great fighter. But becoming the greatest or a legend or anything like that name tag takes time. We know who the previous greats are now decades later cos we can look back and weigh up all the reasons , so i think well know about jc maybe in another 10 years lol sounds harsh as its taken him 10 years to get this level of recognition

Calzaghe's biggest wins are against Kessler, Reid, Eubanks, and Lacy. Whether anyone thinks he's in the top 100 or not, there is no question he is going to the HOF and that should be credible enough to his legacy. If he retires undefeated his resume will look even more impressive. No doubt he's the top 3 at SMW.

All I can say is that I've seen 3 fights, one which was a disgrace to this noble sport and the other 2, he knocked hell out of the best young Yank and the best Dane, who held 2 belts. In short, he is a tough mofo.

Dawg, for once I agree 100% with you. Calzaghes career is all smoke and mirrors, and people are falling for it. Most amusing I suppose but you have to wonder about the mentality.

All it takes is common sense to see and analyse. You look at Joe Calzaghe, the way he fights, his skills, his attributes, the way he's won his fights. Anyone with any boxing knowledge knows that he's streets above people like Taylor and Pavlik just by watching him and analysing him.

You raise an interesting point. There is too much discussion in boxing about "who has he beat?" People who ask this question want some recognized names. And people can never agree on this.
Because the next question becomes "who has the guy that he has beaten beat". Again they want a recognized name.
And you can keep at asking this way till the cows come home.

You have to stop at some point and ask: How did the recognized man become recoginzed? And dont answer by " well he beat another recognized man" because the question applies to this man too.

You have to SEE OBSERVE: "look how fast he is against this strong opponent. LOOK how he adapts.LOOK how his timing - everything is.

If you claim that Ali was great. How do you do this ? Other than basically say: "see look at him"

You dont do it by saying:"well he beat Liston, Frazier, Foreman etc."

Because if you do I will ask you: How did they became great/good. ?

Basically people who asks the question "who has he beaten ?" are people who Cant think for themselves. They want others to determine who is great, and then they can operate from there.

If you dare to think for yourselves look at Calzaghe. If you can look at him and say that he is not great then I say you are not a very good observer. Too bad for you.

If you do not take this "look for yourselves approach" then you are going to be dependent on other peoples thinking forever. Not a good think. So why dont you start now and begin to think for youselves.

Calzaghe is great. He beat my man Mikkel Kessler (with a 117-114 score in my opinion, but that is another discussion)
And I bow to Calzaghe. I respect him.

By the way: I am giving all of this wisdom out for free, because in the end all I want is a better world. And what better place to start than beginning to improve peoples thinking methods here on east side boxing forum.

This is exactly what I am talking about above. What matters to this guy is if you beat someone WHOS HAS BEEN DEEMED BY OTHERS TO BE GREAT. That is what counts.

Exactly, and you should know by now how these Calzaghe haters work....When he beat Eubank= EUBANK wa called over the hil at 31...while Joe still is fighting great at 34...and 35...soon to be 36.
If Joe had beaten Eubank at 28, as COLLINS DID...eubank is past prime at 28 as well...I joe beat Eubank at 26, it would be that Eubank aint in his prime yet, he's too YOUNG...Lacy was a God on here, who was gonna beat Joe via TKO early..Joe wins every round, all 12, and instead of credit= lacy was overhyped....Kessler is very good, ah but now that JOE beats him,, he's overrated,....Everyone Joe beats gives him zero credit from haters...
If Joe beat a prime RJJ at 168= Joe aint good, it's too light for Roy...AHHH, BUT if Joe beats RJJ at 175 in his prime= 175 is too heavy for Roy, Joe aint good...blah..blah..blah..same ole **** excuses :-(
