Beat me to it. Just because it's being fought at range and that usually favors Alexander, that doesn't mean it's favoring him TONIGHT.

Why are the announcers acting like Alexander is running away with this thing?

Such baffling commentary. Goossen and Brian Kenny, both of whom should know better with as long as they've been in the game (and shame more on Goossen especially) seem to believe Alexander is ahead by virtue of forcing Santamaría to ...back up. When boxing on the backfoot doing exactly what Santamaría is doing effectively now was literally Devon's whole M.O. throughout his prime ...hell, entire career.

And they're ignoring Santamaría's crisp rights on the body, as well as the graphics onscreen that have consistently shown him ahead on punch stats.

They just addressed the punch stats and tried to hand-wave it.

    Round 1 Santamaria 10-9
    Round 2 Alexander 10-9
    Round 3 Santamaria 10-9
    Round 4 Santamaria 10-9
    Round 5 Santamaria 10-9
    Round 6 Santamaria 10-9

Santamaria has found something with his looping left hook to the temple, he's going to KO him with it in a round or two.

And lo, the announce team will be utterly blown away by this 'miracle come-from-behind lucky shot' :eyepop:

Why are they talking about Devon Alexander's welterweight future when he's fighting at super-welter?

Goossen keeps harping on Alexander doubling the southpaw jab and backing Santamaría up - which are both factually correct statements, but omitting that a) he is falling short and making zero contact with both southpaw jabs when doubling up and b) Santamaría is perfectly content to draw Alexander in, then sneak out the side door and score counter left jabs and straight rights. Santamaría is the ring general, despite moving backwards, which...NEWSFLASH - is a thing.

Villegas has Santamaría in front, just, 67-66.

    Round 1 Santamaria 10-9
    Round 2 Alexander 10-9
    Round 3 Santamaria 10-9
    Round 4 Santamaria 10-9
    Round 5 Santamaria 10-9
    Round 6 Santamaria 10-9
    Round 7 Santamaria 10-9
    Round 8 Santamaria 10-9

Santamaria easily wins the 8th, landed a one two that stunned him as well as an overhand later.

Is Devon being awarded for looking good throwing air punches again like he was against Kotelnik?
