PBC going to Amazon with NO guaranteed purses

Depends what part of America. White America. Sure. But Mexicans follow the sport and a good amount of black people follow the sport as well.

 

I hope this leads to more activity from PBC fighters. Seems like fighting once a year was the norm for these guys

 

Other than people who just don't like PBC, this is really bad for the sport. There will be no non-PPV cards on Amazon.

Also, it sounds like PBC itself will be responsible for the production so you can forget about 4k. It will DAZN level.

If its going to be mostly PPV, then a lot of the younger/middle card fights will be looking for a new promoter.

Simply not enough cards to get them all out

 

They don't care they made their names which last a lifetime & their money, you really think they care about the fans, bet they reckon it great now that they'll be talked about even more than the next gen of fighters to come behind them win win.

So the fights don't get paid unless we wire then funds during the fight? But PBC gets paid by Bezos before during after a show.?

As it's being reported, Amazon is not paying PBC anything. They are just allowing PBC to broadcast using their bandwidth and also providing marketing support, agreeing to some split of the PPV proceeds. So there will be no fights other than PPV.

By contrast, ESPN actually does give TR a budget to work with and schedule fights. Showtime used to do the same with PBC. But now all the non-PPVs have no place to go.

 

As an update, it looks like there are going to be PPVs & non-PPVs. The press release notes that Amazon will carry 12-14 fights between PPV and non-PPV, so that's not very many tho. If they do 6 PPVs I'd guess it's more like 4-5 non-PPVs in a given year.

Haymon hopefully will let go some of his stable and those guys can become more active elsewhere. Otherwise, all the same issues with Showtime will still exist.

 

Basically there are two options at the moment

Throw money at things and make them happen (the Saudi model)

Follow this model and have a tournament style shoot out and make the best face each other.

Personally I think it should be like a league and a points system:

4 points for a KO
3 points for a TKO
2 points for a UD/SD
1 point for a draw
0 points for a loss

As the points get accumulated the better fighters move up the rankings and face each other while lower ranked fighters face each other and go for KOs to fly up the rankings.

 

From what I'm reading, they're going to have about 12 cards per year... and PBC have over 150 fighters.

There will be headliners and there will be undercard fighters. The days of cushy paydays for PBC fighters are pretty much over and many of them will be undercard fighters. And many fighters will STILL be sitting on the shelf because there isn't enough space per card.

Unless the PBC fighters start fighting each other on a regular basis, they're not going to be very active.

Boxing was dying when they allowed a black man fight for the heavyweight title. (The most prestigious title can't be held by someone from an inferior race. White fans just won't accept that. And he has a white wife. He should be lynched.)

Boxing was dying when Dempsey wouldn't defend his title for years. (He makes too much money. Fighters shouldn't make so much money. When they have a lot of money, they don't want to fight. He's the worst. Too bad he won't fight that black guy, Harry Wills. You know, the one with the white wife.)

Boxing was dying when Dempsey lost to a guy who actually liked to read books. (Fans don't want some prudish bookworm like Tunney as a heavyweight champion. There go all the million-dollar gates.)

Boxing was dying when network television began showing cards every week. (Radio was fine for the big cards. You don't need anything else. TV will kill off the small venue cards.)

Boxing was dying when networks aligned themselves with the International Boxing Club. (It was unfair to the other promoters and they would all die off.)

Boxing was dying when they began showing fights on closed circuit in movie theaters. (Why can't I just watch it on my TV.)

Boxing was dying when the International Boxing Club was broken up. (All the top fighters boxed for them).

Boxing was dying when the feds cracked down on the Mob in boxing. (Who could trust a sport run by mobsters.)

Boxing was dying when Benny Paret was killed on national TV. (Boxing is barbaric. Network television needs to run from this garbage. We're a civilized society. Why do we still have boxing?)

Boxing was dying when Cassius Clay joined the Black Muslims and Liston took a dive. (We can't have the heavyweight champion as a member of a radical organization. And the mafia must be back. We thought we got rid of them. The sport is a disgrace. Americans prefer football, anyway. Boxing is becoming a niche sport. The second Liston fight was held in a hocky rink in Maine. Only a thousand people showed up.)

Boxing was dying when TWO boxing ratings organizations popped up. (There's only one world, how can there be two world champs?)

Boxing was dying when the Ring ratings scandal happened. (Thank God there were two sanctioning bodies that were run independently of each other. Nobody can trust Ring. They take money for ratings.)

Boxing was dying when the two ratings organizations were outside the U.S. (90 percent of the fight cards were in the US, how could some Mickey Mouse org from Venezuela and Mexico control the ratings?)

Boxing was dying when Ray Mancini killed Kim on national TV. (Boxing needs to end, now! Remove it from national television. Kim was exhausted. Something needs to be done to make boxing safer.)

Boxing was dying when a third ratings body (the IBF) popped up in the U.S. (Three ratings bodies are ridiculous. There's one world, how can there be three world champions?)

Boxing was dying when title fights were cut from 15 rounds to 12 to make the sport safer. (No one will stand for that. Do you know how many fights were decided after the 12th round? Joe Louis would've lost to Billy Conn, for God's sake. Thank God for the IBF. They maintain all their title fights will remain 15 rounds.)

Boxing was dying when network television STOPPED showing cards every week and it was only on cable TV. (What are people going to do if they can't watch boxing on TV? How are young fans supposed to find it? They don't pay the cable bill? Do you expect them to actually buy tickets and go to a fight? This Clay is the worst thing to happen to the sport.)

Boxing was dying when all the big fights were on HBO. (If you live in a rural community out in the country, most homes aren't even wired for HBO. Nobody I know has it.)

Boxing was dying when the IBF president was sent to prison for taking $300,000 from Bob Arum to fix his ratings. (Who can trust the sanctioning bodies anymore? Thank God there's Ring Magazine ratings.)

Boxing was dying when home PPV began. (I already pay for my cable channels, why do I have to pay extra for the best fights?)

Boxing was dying when people stopped buying PPVs. (If fans don't order De La Hoya-Mayweather, billed as 'The Fight To Save Boxing' ... then that proves the sport is dead.)

Boxing was dying when the PBC was paying networks to show their boxing cards and monopolizing all the national and cable networks. (Next thing you know, they'll make a PBC belt, and run all the sanctioning bodies out of the sport. What will happen to all the champs who don't want to fight for a PBC belt?)

Boxing was dying when HBO quit televising boxing. (Well, that's it. I'll never watch boxing again.)

Boxing was dying when DAZN started putting fights on PPV. (I subscribed to DAZN because they said I'd get all the fights for my monthly fee.)

Boxing was dying because Showtime doesn't want the PBC anymore. (All the fighters are overpaid. If PBC doesn't partner with DAZN, it'll fold. This is then end of the PBC. Good riddance. They coddle fighters.)

Boxing was dying when YouTubers started staging cards. (This is making a mockery of everything! Old fans don't even know what YouTube is. Do we want all these young fans who like boxing and hype?)


Now boxing is dying because PBC is moving to Amazon Prime? Seriously?

There are 200 million Amazon prime subscribers. 200 million!

What people (mainly in the US) who insist boxing is "dying" always forget is boxing is a global sport. If it's dead in one spot, it's the greatest ERA EVER in another spot.

At the end of the last century and the beginning of this century, Germany had its greatest EVER era in boxing history. The Klitschkos sold our stadiums. Dariusz, Ottke, Maske were idols.

The last decade has been the greatest era for boxing EVER in the UK. 100,000-seat venues sold out. Champions from the UK making tens if not hundreds of millions of dollars.

Now, Saudi is beginning its run.

STOP WHINING.

 

I think there will be fighters looking to get out of the PBC.
