I can't stand the whole presentation of it. Some of the fights have been entertaining but it's got a real artificial and manufactured soulless feel to it.
It is and it's because Haymon doesn't care for individual boxer or success of each boxer's career. He just wants PBC to succeed as a collective, boxers come and go for Haymon, it's a meat grinder. Every boxer has the same entrance, no ring girls, everything is soulless. They don't announce which belts fighters hold, sometimes they don't show belts at all. It's all about PBC as a whole, not individual boxers. :dead
I had high hopes for the PBC but despite a few outliers Haymon has resorted to doing what he was on HBO and Showtime which was putting on non-competitive fights. The card this weekend was laughable. Also, you have to remember Haymon is playing with someone elses money he is at no risk as he is getting paid regardless by his stake in the fighters. All the money that is being spent on these purses is the investors money Haymon has ZERO monetary risk in this venture. Eventually these investors are going to want to see a return. You aren't getting one with papered houses, low advertising revenue, and mediocre to average ratings. Something will have to give eventually.
Then don't watch it, easy. A lot of us enjoy it and it's been showcasing great fighters and great fights.
Yeah the entrances are horrible as is the commentary. Sucks the life right out of everything. As for the decision to omit round card girls, I heard Haymon threw a monumental hissy fit when the networks balked at the idea of using trannies. lol
Quality definitely drops if he shows that many cards, it's normal. Like Zak said, it was the same with TR normal cards, FNF, etc. Would you rather no boxing on network television? There's 2 cards on some weeks, do people expect big championship fights every week? :think
I don't care if it is on HBO, Showtime, Spike, Fox Sports, ESPN, CBS, NBC, ABC, etc. if it is **** I am not watching it. I gave the card on Saturday a chance then turned it off after the 3rd round of the Garcia vs Malinaggi fight. It was garbage. Haymon has had a few good PBC events. For me the ones on Spike TV seem to be the best so far. He has enough fighters to put on better cards than he is. I don't care if it is on 'free' tv or not.
Good point. My grips with TR cards was that sometimes they'd put on a two fight card so it was over quickly. It's not like HBO/Showtime/GBP/TR always has on championship cards. With that said, it's not always great fighters and great fights. And the Danny fight was 'meh'.
