Yeah. I was hoping that maybe, unlike those guys, he at least has the benefit of fighting during the social media & forums era, so even though Western media coverage nowadays is no better than it was in Yoko & Masao's, at least some of us fans and industry types in the West (including, presumably, HOF voters) have a chance to know about top Asian boxers...
I think that in Japan the main networks have a lot more influence left than the American ones. It takes a big event or whatever the most popular show is currently for CBS/NBC to pull in 12.8 million viewers.
They don't tend to publicise them so I'm not sure. In terms of viewers per spend though it's much better value for money
Yeah, the Hall of Fame isn't just based on resumes- it's not just what you do in boxing, it also what you do for boxing (which is pretty much all Gatti got in for). If Yamanaka is drawing these massive ratings, in entertaining fights, he's obviously going to be encouraging a lot of young Asian kids to become boxers. And unlike Broner he is a postive role model. For me, a couple of huge domestic showdowns and wins with the Kameda's brothers or Inoue and he should be given serious consideration.
If that was the case Tatsuyoshi would be first ballot. RE the fights with Kameda's...not likely they are banned from Japan and so he'd have to travel which is looking unlikely with those TV figures. Inoue has said he wants to break Gushiken's defenses record
Did he not also say that he wanted to break the record title defenses when he was a Light Flyweight about a year ago too? :think
No, he said he wanted 1 defense at Light Flyweight to basically say he'd defended the title. He had almost destroyed himself getting to 108 for the Hernandez fight and made it clear a move up was imminent, though it was assumed he'd be going to 112 not straight to 115
Which, again, just makes Yamanaka's triumph over him look even better. (and bumps it up to 5 current/former world titlists beaten..)
