Yup. Very close fight that could have gone either way. A rematch would be nice!

There have been quite a few where I was like "Oh, they didn't give it to the A fighter!"

To be honest, early on it seemed that it would be some BS with that point deduction... But then the ref just proved to be all around completely incompetent rather than biased, I'm surprised Payano wasn't warned or even had another point deducated after that.

The 2 points on ****** was pretty harsh as well.

    2012 US Olympians as pros:

    Jo-Jo Diaz 17-0 (10) ✓
    Jose Ramírez 15-0 (12) ✓
    Jamel Herring 12-0 (7) ✓
    Errol Spence Jr. 17-0 (14) ✓
    Terrell Gausha 15-0 (8.) ✓
    Marcus Browne 15-0 (11) ✓
    Michael Hunter 9-0 (6) ✓
    Dominic Breazeale 15-0 (14) ✓
    Rau'shee Warren 13-1 (4)

    * none of the US women's team from the London games (Quanitta Underwood hasn't been heard from since failing to advance past the RO16, while Marlen Esparza and Claressa Shields are still both top amateurs, still competing side by side as recently as last month's Pan-American Games) have turned pro.

    ✓ = still undefeated.

I was positive somebody else would lose their zero before Rau'shee...though I was expecting him to fail in his quest, as he waited too long for his pro turn greedily chasing a third Olympic berth. A lot of his teammates from 2012 are pure ass. In fact, all of them are but for Spence, Ramírez and Diaz.

Expect a lot of those ✓'s to become

It was an amazing fight though, looking back, those penalties were probably legitimate.

That was a pretty bad rabbit punch, let's be honest

And that throwdown was just terrible. :rofl

    Rau'Shee is quality.

He could have actually won this. He's definitely on Payano's level.

I agree but I like when refs give warnings rather than just going straight for the deductions like that... Going by this ruling there should have been quite a few more.

To be honest, I wasn't really a big fan of this fight, too ugly for my tastes.

    :?

Payano was supposed to lose. PBC had this set up for Rau'shee to grab a title, because it was now or never. He may only be 28 but he is a veteran of three Olympics. He will hit a half-life very shortly into his pro career, guaranteed. Especially since he was already exhibiting signs of being shot (or borderline shot) in the last few years in the amateurs. Plus, he never had a style to make a very successful transition anyway. Not saying he's Zou Shiming or anything, but also not Vasyl Lomachenko if you catch my drift.

He's talented and experienced (albeit not in the pro game) - which is why I said, in the very post you quoted, that I was expecting him to keep his zero longer than all but three of his 2012 US teammates, because the rest of them are bums.

Then again, he was unlike them, fast-tracked into a title shot because of his ring wear and declining abilities, so maybe not that surprising. Guys like Breazeale and Browne have begun to step up a bit and picked up some vaguely decent scalps but none of them have faced anyone the level of a Payano.

Both guys are excessively dirty but it's a hell of a lot more exciting than a lot of the stuff we got yesterday, or the day before that.

This one's definitely contender for FOTD, even week/month?!

I understand that, but Payano is a really good fighter as well and Rau'Sheed just came a little too short.

He was only a very very small favourite in this fight and outlanded/outfoxed Payano in many instances in said fight.

I think a rematch will occur, Rau'Shee could definitely take it next time.

Not a special special talent but a very good fighter nevertheless
