Joseph Don Spence just stopped Limberth Ponce after 5 of a scheduled 8 in their middleweight contest.

I'm still at my grandmother's, may or may not be home for the main event depending on whether they show another bout in between. Anyway, there's U.S. domestic welterweight Christmas boxing on if you're interested.

Dominant opener for VMJ (wearing the festive green w/ red trim; DeLomba has the boricua flag trunks) using clockwise movement and an accurate, busy left jab. 90% of the jab connects in the round are Melnicki's - literally, 9:1.

    10-9 Melnicki Jr.

Melnicki has one pro loss (in ten outings), this past April, to Philly prospect James Martin via MD.

DeLomba is 16-3 and coming off a shutout loss 22 months ago to Richardson Hitchins.

Commentator is correct, the listed Comp-U-Box numbers are way off, they only have Melnicki landing a tiny fraction of the jabs he actually has. That punch has been the story of the fight, as there's very little meaningful work done between the pair otherwise. Stationary high guard by DeLomba, waiting too much, occasionally reaching in with rights or charging with uppercuts, but easily dodged with quick footwork and countered with sharp jabs and 1-2s from Melnicki.

    20-18 Melnicki

DeLomba blunders into a few more counter 1-2s, eventually one too many as he is rocked by a right and given no recovery time, with Melnicki unloading for a solid half-minute on him with head and body combos with eighty seconds left on the clock. DeLomba weathers it but is now on the backfoot and having a hard time getting a rhythm going, with a confident Melnicki darting in to break any momentum with jabs and looping rights around the guard and then resetting outside. The whole upper half of DeLomba's face is now swollen up red, possibly a few little cuts.

Very nearly a 10-8 even without a KD.

    30-27 Melnicki Jr., super dominant

DeLomba has only been stopped once, more than six years ago. That was during an initial pro run where he was down half a dozen times in his first dozen pro bouts (most often getting off the canvas to win). Since then he is 5-2 but hasn't been down again.

He's standing up to a good amount of clean volume punching from Melnicki, but the majority of it has been jabs and even when he does put combinations together Melnicki hasn't been firing with spite.

    40-36 VMJ

79-23 connect advantage overall for Melnicki halfway through round 5. (although probably an even slightly wider disparity, as they under-credited him for jabs landed in the first couple of rounds).

DeLomba just taking a ride in the little red wagon, trailing after Melnicki and getting his face jabbed in, over and over.

    50-45

Nick angrily started down Vito (who ignored him) at the bell as they headed for their corners. Cracks in the mental armor, could be heading for a "no mas" or a desperation tailspin culminating in a DQ or something.
