The numbers apparently were the highest for boxing on a Friday night on basic cable for the past 8 years, according to Spike. However, reruns of COPS had higher viewer ratings. :verysad What went wrong here?
1) Its Friday night 2) Its Spike Initial numbers mean little anyhow, what matters is performance over time. Noone will know if PBC is a success or not for at least a year, probably 2.
To be honest I missed the fights primarily because I had no clue they would be on Spike TV. I figured I was mistaken, and the fights were the next evening.
Luckily, I knew it came on 7 because it took me twenty minutes to find that bull**** station. I'm sure I wasn't alone.
It makes no sense whatsoever for a boxing fan to not care at least somewhat on how boxing rates on tv.
Friday night fights interferes with my social life.A dude like Berto is not going to change that. Not surprised at a so so viewership.
The numbers seem pretty good to me when compared to other Spike sports programs. When the numbers are adjusted to add dvd views Spike expects those numbers to climb to around 950,000 so when compared to their other shows, also dvd included, boxing did well. Spike Friday night PBC-950,000 Spike MMA Friday night averages 845,000 Spike kickboxing Friday night averages around 500,000 ESPN Friday boxing(2014) averaged 403,000 With no built in audience yet for boxing on Spike those are strong numbers. A lot of shows do get some of their best numbers on their debut shows so PBC needs to keep the momentum up. Also Haymon has been overspending for some of these PBC fights. He needs to get the purses in line with what he's paying for in the future. But for now the goal would seem to be to build his brand and a following, even if he has to pay heavy up front for it. His first show seemed to do that.
I read this was twice the average of ESPN2s average for boxing on Fridays in 2014, and the most a boxing show has gotten on US TV since 2007. Not terrible
fat dan said this was a good showing for pbc on a friday on spike then again a few years ago fat dan told you guys arum was coming with excuse after another trying to avoid the floyd fight...and none of you believed it either so...
