Damn. I never order a PPV cos I know if I wanna see real art I watch any Roy Jones Jr. fight that took place btw 1989 - 2003. Roy has faced nearly all different style type opponents. Young fighters should watch Roy's tapes cos the styles keep on repeating... and he had all the remidies to beat them... one by one.
Excellent thread that exposes fans of drama and fans of special skills in this sport. People that don't understand what leg movement is, feinting, speed, counters, flexibility, speed, awareness, adaptation, calculated reaction, ring smarts and special natural gifted ability will easily find Mayweather boring. Think it's obvious that the general find him boring and generally people are out of shape, those that did get involved in boxing training would never honestly claim that fighting style is boring and not surreal/special. Generally people are gullible otherwise wealthy people won't be in the minority. To those "fans", it's like watching a great foreign movie without subtitles then claiming it sucked, yet they put zero effort into getting it subtitled. It's that ******ed and maybe worse. Watching two guys defenseless exchanging blows all night is definitely easier to understand, which is why there's far more support for that style. Yet when those guys lose their punch resistance, they're "glass jawed" all of a sudden.
For educational purposes I meant. No one can emulate Ali or RJJ for that matter but i'm sure they can take something useful from each of thier fights. The problem with these 'up and coming wannabe boxing star's' is that they rely 2 much on thier trainers and don't use thier own brain in the ring. Roy hardly needed any advise from Merkerson; he was so happy in the ring, he could adjust when he wanted to, he could pot-shot/target practice, when he wanted to inflict hurt he could, he was brilliant. I never got bored and still don't when I watch tapes of his fights or interviews. Roy has a brilliant boxing mind, historically, fundamentally and businesswise.
I don't think it's fair to compare RJJ or even Ali to many of those up-coming fighters. RJJ and Ali were smart in their own rights because they were naturally gifted, physically and mentally. Even those two needed guidance as they made their ways within the sport. Not everyone is physically gifted like that and to see normal guys still turn to professional fighters and compete is remarkable nevertheless.
Void is not a power puncher... Void is a pure Boxer! He has to talk loud to get attention! I remember when Floyd was saying all kinds of BS before the DLH fight... How he would KO Oscar.. Blah blah blah. He won a boring, close SD!
True say. Take Khan for example; people often say he has one of the fastest hands but who cares? His handspeed fades after the 4th round and it's not like he's accurate when he punches; he never sit's down on them and gets too excited like a energizer durracell bunny. After the 4th round the world get's to witness time and time again that he is a 1D fighter with no inside game. Sad... really. I get annoyed when people poll on my threads that a fighter like Khan will win the rematch rather than the more complete fighter i.e. Lamont Peterson.
What Khan has going for him is speed, that's what carried him in the olympics. Khan was never known for supernatural skills or ring smarts, he's known for his conditioning. Which is why Roach should get him to adapt and add some skills to his ability otherwise he would be easy pickings when he loses his speed. So yes, I totally agree with you about Khan and it is sad. Khan just believes a lot of the trash talking he does and takes it with him in the ring, which is stupid. As soon as he's hit, the gameplan is out the window and he's wide open for more. Though I do believe that Khan would beat Peterson in the rematch. The first fight was a robbery in my opinion. Peterson is hardly a complete fighter, even in comparison to Khan.
In my opinion Ariza deserves more credit than Freddie lol. The thing I like about Lamont is he is humble and he can adjust; when things aren't working for him he finds a way and prevails (barring the Timid Timmy fight). I actually thought it should have been a draw but tbh we all knew deep inside with the fight being in DC and with a ref who say's 'LETS THROW SOME THUNDER BIATCH' Lamont was gonna get the nod. I don't like it when titles are changed via SD. What ****ery is that lol. Let's say in the rematch Khan keeps the fight in the centre of the ring and if Lamont comes in head first Khan pivots and throws hooks/uppercuts. Let's say he win's it via a UD. Then what's gonna happen to Lamont... he isn't finished?
