I did read your post, mate - I just can't stand the little cocksucker. Anyway, to your main point -

No, I don't think it'll have any effect. Mayweather is the rare guy who can draw big money now without anything on the line. The majority of fighters rely on the belts to give them prominence, and definitely to increase their earnings potential.

All it really shows is that, as ever, the big fighters don't need the sanctioning bodies to make money.

 

Mayweather has crossed over. he and Pacquiao are up there with the Tiger Woods, Roger Federers, Michael Shuemacher. The top men in the sports known to all sports fans not just hardcore followers of the sport.

 

Floyd's doing the right thing. Plus he's a Tiny Green Belt Man, Loves the WBC title.

A fight's a fight the title of world champion for him has gone out the window because he and i feel he's best in the world p4p.

 

1) WBA World Champion

2) WBA Super World Champion

3) Champ in Recess (?)

Excellent point. There's no value for money here for Floyd. If your going to pay a sanctioning fee for the privilige of being a world champ (as well as fighting for it!) then they should have a responsibility to make sure your the only champ. Which they wont do even if they could. Complete rip off for established fighters like Floyd.

 

Additionally..... why should a Governing body (after all that is what these are supposed to be) charge a fee for recognising someone as a champion?

I suppose Usain Bolt gives up a % of his sponsorship monies to the IAAF for winning the 100m title?

A governing body is supposed to GOVERN the sport and operate as a non-profit organisation..... not line their pockets!

I think HBO started to make a stand with the trash can thing on the Lewis/Holyfield I review show..... but the situation has gotten a whole lot worse since then with multiple champs per organisation per weightclass :nut

Even from a fighter's point of view.... how the hell can you consider yourself a world champion when about five other people are doing the same?

It's bad enough in darts, with only two ''champions'' - but at least there is a general recognition that the PDC is the stronger competition, whilst not being part of the establishment.... but at least they have to align themselves with one particular org.

In boxing people swap orgs every ten minutes, making it a farce.

 

theres only a very few boxers can do this,he's solidly established, could'nt emagine chad dawson taking that attitude, unfotunatly to be world champ you need to win one' when you have about 6 its time to ignore them.

 

I think the multiple champions has been the final straw with the boxing fans.

Sky need to get on doing the same as HBO and Showtime. They are still promoting Katsidis vs Mitchll as WBO title fight whens its actually interim.

 

Dawson did. He gave up his WBC title to fight Tarver instead of fight Diacanou in romania. He then gave up the IBF belt to fight Johnson again instead of figthing the unknown Tarvoris Cloud.
