Doesn't altogether preclude him ever making another return to action, but having another focus (besides conspicuous influencer-minded consumption) does reduce the possibility of him being driven again by idle hands syndrome to resume the only mantle he's known since childhood. It'll be interesting to see how Floyd does in this department of the family business.

Floyd would be a great trainer. His boxing IQ is really second to none. He is outstanding when it comes to picking up flaws and telling it straight like it is.

People are saying he would make a good trainer because of his ability but this does not mean that he will make it as a trainer .
He is a rookie coach at this point . Many good coaches had a boxing record but often not a good one but they became excellent trainers

This is a different job from being a fighter

Yeah I suspect the great boxer bad coach stems from impatience and trying to put on too many changes too quickly rather than a gradual infusement of better technique.

True not only in being but inapt of sports. One of the greatest Japanese baseball player here named Nagashima did coaching but can't teach worth a damn. He said he can't understand how his players can't swing properly LOL

Way more to being a good trainer than boxing iq.

I suspect the same flaws that have held him back as a promoter would hold him back as a trainer.

To his credit he is giving back to the sport and developing new talent. Many said boxing will die during the Klitschko era thanks to him and the lies of Oscar boxing now booming. Thing is only way boxing survives is by publicty from controversal characters.

Floyd'll probably make a great tactician rather than a trainer. He could well plan out to beat anyone but if I want someone in my corner. It isn't him.

Way to self absorbed to give his best to a boxer..Bring on board for advice ??? I cant actually see anything working for Mayweather apart from fighting himself, hes to much of a twat regardless of what he COULD bring to the table

Most great athletes dont make good coaches in various sports. It came easy to them so they cant understand why others can't do what they do.

This. Fighters that were both as successful and as famous as Floyd usually make terrible trainers, since being a trainer requires you to put most of your energy, time, and attention into someone else instead of yourself and I don’t see Floyd being able to do it consistently. This is the same reason why I think Floyd is great at promoting himself, but not so good at promoting others.

Roy Jones also didn’t turn out to be a good trainer, since even though Roy had a lot to teach his main focus was still himself, which always resulted in his fighters having to get another trainer.

I remember in an interview couple years ago Mike Tyson saying the reason he didn’t become a trainer after he retired is that he could never imagine himself putting in all of the time and attention into a young man that Cus D’Amato and Rooney put into him.

This. As an advisor Floyd would be great. Joe Louis was also very good in this capacity.

It all depends on the individual chemistry with the person being trained. If they're keyed into Mayweather's system then he can probably impart some of his knowledge successfully and help them incorporate what they can into their game. If either party isn't feeling it then it will go awry.

Starting with his son and nephew is smart, then - but as we know those dynamics can swing either way.

He has already shown he is a great fighter, a great boxing promoter and manager so let’s see if he can be a great trainer like his late Uncle Roger Mayweather.
