They're not from the same era and that's not even a matter of opinion. Floyd was only at the point of fighting 20-18 Felipe Garcia when Sweet Pea had completed the first half of a winless streak that would eventually push him to retirement - we're talking about late 1997. Floyd's career really took off in 1998. Wins vs. Hernandez and Manfredy were the highlights of his career at that point. Meanwhile Sweet Pea was on a complete hiatus, returned in 1999 to lose to Trinidad and in 2001 to lose again, this time by KO against Bojorquez. p.s. duh!
I respect your point of view kg, you like grouping era's to a longer time frame, longer than 10 years. My point from the start of the thread is to see how others felt about it. I thought most would feel that if certain fighters primes did'nt cross, then they would consider such fighters from different eras, particularly when one such as myself would point out and ask "if not Mayweather, who was better from his era?" Obviously I'm talking about the time frame that Mayweather was a consensus p4p'er. I see that one could also group an era the way you're describing it, a longer period in time, but you'd have to be specific and add something like..."if not Mayweather who within the last 15 years or so was a better fighter?" ......then you would be asserting or asking what one would consider a better fighter during the time frame specified. The way I stated my cause in a previous thread that inspired me to open this thread, I think its clear to anybody that reads it, that I'm talking about specifically Mayweathers prime fighting era that never crossed with Whitaker's, which started around 2001 and exist to the present. .....but I do understand where you're coming from.....Who was the best fighter of the last 25 years?......If stated that way in a question, we know we're talking about a 25 year time frame, and since posed in that question sense, one could call it an era in the sense that we're trying to opiniate and solve the queston of who was the best from the last 25 years. Maybe just a little bit of miscomunication on both our parts, and like I said, you're a sound poster and I enjoy reading your posts. The fun part of course is debating as we're doing here, an education comes of it to both me and you my friend!:good
Sorry if I'm coming across aggravated. We are trying to purchase a house, and it is far more BS than I thought it was going to be. I think it is affecting my demeanor.
No need to apologize. Always a pleasure exchanging thoughts with you whether we agree or disagree. Hell, there is more fun debating disagreements.:yep Anyways, good luck in purchasing your house. Dont let these realtors or lenders pressure you into something you're not sure about. Do your homework and get a good deal on it!:good
I've cut down some on my posting since the exhausting JMM-Pac debates. I've been around here, just posting less on JMM-Pac and more on other thread topics. I'm not one to open threads, but what the hell, its a step away from JMM-Pac, and I knew that I'd get some real debate from a fine poster like kg, one of the few Pac fans that actually uses real logic in his debating tactics! I'll get back to you about JMM-Casamayor, or if you look at my profile, you'll probably catch some of my postings on the subject. Good to hear from you Saul!:thumbsup
