First off I am going to say, I don't like PBF, I don't like the way he fights, hell, I don't like the way he talks, walks or pretty much anything else he does.
But, he is an exceptional boxer, with world class boxing skills, great defense, speed and decent power. I really think there are fighter's out there that could give him a real challenge. His last opponent JMM was not one of them.
As a comeback fight it was a reasonable one, although my main thought watching was, damn PBF looks so much bigger, as in 3 or 4 weight classes bigger, I have no idea what weight PBF actually was on the night, if I was to guess I would say somewhere around 160.
Of course PBF chose an opponent with a name , who was old, past his prime, what looked like 3 or 4 weight classes lighter, but with a name so he could make himself look good.
I just really hope, if PBF fights again, he fights someone his own size. Just my 2c.

    Reasonable post.

The man has the talent, but doesn't want to take the risks necessary to be great.

A fight with Pavlik would do wonders for his standing.

    IMO, 45 % chance he'd get KO'd and 54 % chance he'd win a decision.

    So did Sugar Shane.

Look I too can understand why he would choose a guy like JMM......after all, he was coming off an almost 2 year lay off, and he did agree to come down to a catchweight.

But all that went fu**ing out the window as the fight drew near. He first postpones the fight due to a so called rib injury, forcing Marquez to alter his training regime. Then a night or two before the fight, he ignores the catchweight agreement and comes in his usual comfortable weight.

As if Marquez didn't already have cards stacked against him, gradually Floyd chops and changes things to his comfort. That's not right man, not right at all.

PBF's middle name is "Money" so I was not surprised at all, do I blame him, hell yes I do, as a boxing fan that supports boxing with my hard earned dollars I want to see competitive fights, I want to see the best in the world ( of which PBF is one) have tough hard fights preferably not at a catch weight.
PBF's aim is to extract as much money from boxing with the least risk, am I saying thats unwise of him, no i'm not. Its just not good for boxing, and thats what I care about.

a fight with pavlik...?? lol do u guys watch boxing... the man jumped up 5 weight classes ... jmm didn't look much smaller then floyd to me at all... and the weight wasnt the difference at all... floyd didn't impose his strength and size on jmm he just simply outboxed him which is something he would have done to jmm at any weight

so its ok for cotto to fight michael jennings after a long lay off... it was ok for de la hoya to fight steve forbes after a long lay off... but it was wrong for pbf to come back after a 2 year layoff and fight num 2 pound for pound fighter????

To unrealda2nd, and this is just my opinion, no it was not good for boxing for cotto to fight jennings or hoya v forbes. Any time a mismatch in weight or skill is shown on TV especially a PPV its bad for boxing.
Boxing has a lot of competition these days MMA etc, I fear that a few more years of customers (thats you and me) paying either to attend or watch on TV/PPV boxing matches where the opponent is woefully outclassed or does not try to fight, will continue to diminish boxing further.
Many top athletes who would have gone into boxing are now in the NFL / soccer / NBA
etc, and why is this? ... its simple, theres more money there ... There is more money there because less people are watching/paying to watch boxing.
Personally I blame this on the crazy ABC championships, terrible matchmaking, and so many weight classes it makes my head spin.
The PBF v JMM is far from the worst I have seen, but it was bad for boxing.

    What's your point here ?

Floyd's lightest Pro weight was 130.

    Oscar's was also 130.

    Oscar fought BHop at 160.

What's so ****in' far-fetched about Floyd fighting Pavlik ?

Floyd is a more skilled fighter than the Oscar who faced Bernard.

And Pavlik is nowhere near as skilled as the Bernard who faced Oscar

You need a set of these:

To save typing, I'll quote myself from another thread.

Again, if Floyd was willing to take the risk, this fight would add greatly to his currently missing stature.

And as I said in the earlier post, I'd make him the slight favourite.

The fact that they both started at 130 does not mean they will both grow to reach the middleweight division. Oscar is a bigger man then Floyd is. If you cant see that I dont know what to say.

Before anyone mentions Pavlik Id rather Floyd concentrate on Pac, Cotto and Mosley.

He needs more than those three.

But they would be a good start.

    Williams at a minimum.

You know if Mosley would have just accepted his challenge back in 2006 there wouldn't be any of this discussion today.

Mayweather would have whooped Mosley, DLH, Hatton's ass and the outlook from PBFs critics would be way different.

Mosley backing out of a Mayweather fight in 2006 was a set back to Mayweathers legacy.

He doesn't deserve to fight Mayweather now but I hope he does so Mayweather can lay a serious smack down.

All this so much bigger stuff is bull****...Yeah Floyd was bigger then JMM but he wasnt SOOO much bigger then JMM there was less then a 10 pound difference Floyd 152 JMM 146 im not sure how 6 pounds could look so different.

truth is Floyd is most often the smaller guy in the ring, in fact this maybe the first time That I have saw a Floyd fight were he was clearly the bigger guy, it dont happen often.
