Another post out of curiousity - I can't seem to find the answer anywhere.

Has Floyd Mayweather Jr. ever fought a defensively-minded fighter? I know he's beaten lots of offensive guys - Corrales, Castillo, Corley, Baldo, Zab, etc...

...but has he beaten anyone who focuses on defence? Someone like himself or James Toney, for instance.

Try to limit it to champions/good contenders if you can, you can spare turtle-up journeymen :D

Be interesting to hear the answer.

How many defensive-minded fighters were out there for him to fight?

I never said there were any.

I was just wondering if he had fought any, that's all.

I don't know how he'd react to one.

I can't even think of any defensive minded fighters that were or are out there for him to fight.

I guess that answers my question, then.

I asked it primarily because I don't know much about PBF's earlier career - in particular the champions he fought at 130.

    Interesting question.
I would love to see him fight Spinks. Spinks could pose problems because of his reach, southpaw stance, speed, jab, movement and defense. If he had a better workrate I'd pick him to beat PBF but he just doesn't throw enough to win against PBF.

    Spinks is a good choice.

Think he might be inclined to throw more in a fight against PBF because he isn't as threatening as most of Spinks' opponents?

Spinks is a runner, but for a pretty good reason - he fights alot of big hitters, men much bigger than him. Floyd wouldn't be one.

Mitchell would probably the closest fighter to fit this description.
