I'm thinking of joining my local PCYC to do some boxing. I'm 27 and never done any boxing before (apart from the odd scuffle at the pub when I was younger). Are the PCYC's any good for training and picking up some tips ?

Go for it mate, friend of mine used to go to a pcyc, few meatheads where he went, little more worried about getting huge than being good boxers but the trainers there do a good job and it's cheaper than a lot of other places.

Yep, PCYC is better than going to a boxercise class at a corporate gym - they usually have 4 training sessions a week - 2 skills sessions and 2 practise sessions - 3 after work, one Sunday mornings.

You get to go at your own pace and when they feel you're ready they'll ask if you want to spar - make sure you have a mouthguard and they'll let you hop in the ring.

    Best place in my opinion.
The trainers put their own time in, so they're not running their own agendas.

ABSOLUTE RESPECT. thats where i started.

    PCYC is good bruz...

i train with a pcyc gym and they usually trake poretty good care of us... i was training under the same 2 guys before the pcyc gym opened up and they moved over there to train so i followed..

most times we go away to fight we can usually get a car or bus and fuel cards so it makes it alot cheaper

Remember the good old days, when people having an argument used to say "me vs you, pcyc 20 minutes". I miss those days. They are good gyms though.

    Haha,

Yeah my mates went to the local pcyc and they got worked over fitness wise there, running around the block beforte class, etc.

When i did boxing training this year at my gym i thought i was heaps fit, then when i did some kickboxing training, i felt thta worked me over so much more than the boxing class, but both were fun to do.
The first kickboxing class i did i felt like chucking up half way through it:oops:.
But i got used to it again, i was thinking how a couple of years earlier i used to do 2 classes in a row and felt good. Haha
