TO me this isnt even close Lopez had waaaaaaaaaay more ability than Calzaghe. Although Resume wise they are similar. I had to make this based on a certain poster on the Calzaghe/Tapia thread insuating that Calzaghe was greater. What do you guys think? I suspect i will hear from a lot of deluisional Calzaghe nuthuggers, but im hoping the knowledgeable minds will prevail. Even though i picked Tapia over Calzaghe, i can say they are somewhat close. Lopez/Calzaghe is not even close.:nono
I shouldn't speak for him, but he seemed to be poking fun at some of the Calazaghe fans because their only reasoning for ranking him so high was because of his undefeated record. Popkins then says, Hey, if that's how you like to rank your fighters then you must have Ricardo Lopez higher than Joe considering he went 51-0. He was poking fun at their reasoning, that's all. As for the thread, I'm not sure...I could have Calzaghe higher. More thought is required.
pound 4 pound seems to suggest to me that their skills would have equated to similar results at other divisions. I know this isn't what the pound 4 pound is all about, but pound 4 pound champs usually have this in common, winning in different divisions. Both of these fighters fought in the same division their entire career. I'm going to pass on this one.
Pound 4 Pound to me simply means comparing all fighters regardless of weight divisions. Who was more effective at their best? Comparing which fighters fought and defeated the better level of competition. Who demonstrated the most impressive level of longevity, and who accomplished the most? These are questions I ask myself when comparing fighters from different weight classes and era's. Briefly, Ricardo Lopez can only really claim to have been a better fighter in terms of ability. Anarci might have something to say about that, though. I would say victories over Mikkel Kessler and Bernard Hopkins trumps virtually anything on Lopez's CV.
Lopez just fought a bunch of garbage men, he has a horrible resume and to think some people rank him in the top70 is pathetic.
Calzaghe was a very good fighter but he was not willing to come to the US to prove himself when it mattered. Lopez>>>Calzaghe even Saldivar was better than Calzaghe
Even Saldivar? Salvidar was greater than Lopez. Beat some real quality at 126lbs, and this whilst being fairly small at 5'3. Very good technician, one of the better body punchers of his time.
Saldivar beat at least five fighters who were vastly superior to anyone Lopez even fought, let alone beat.
Sorry anarci, but im gonna have to disagree with you here...I love Lopez, but no way is he greater than Saldivar....Saldivar is easily in the top 4 ATG mexicans...alongside Chavez, Olivares and Sanchez...I'd rank Lopez somewhere around the 7th ATG mexicans, and as much as i love JMM, dude isnt even in the top 10 mexican ATG list, let alone close to Saldivar IMO.....as for the thread, yes Lopez is better than Calslappy.
