I re-watched Whittaker vs. Chavez yesterday, and whilst the fight is no Hopkins-Pavlik/Calzaghe-Lacy blowout, all of the close rounds go to Sweet Pea IMO. He just does too much in every round for Chavez to justify even a DRAW!!!

I'd be interested to see what scores you guys gave the fight. I had it 117-111 for Sweet Pea.

I think exactly the same as you regarding that fight. Pea was superb.

I didnt think that fight was that hard to score in the end. Pea was jobbed hard that night.

Everything seemed against him, even the commentators. I hadnt watched that fight in a while, someone made a thread about bias commentators and had a link to the first few rounds. It was horribly biased against Whitaker.

Early on it was, but by the end of the night even they were crying robbery.

The commentators gave him such little respect they called him 'Pee Wee' throughout the fight, without any of them correcting each other as to his real moniker.

I actually think my love of Chavez gave him those three ruunds as it was hard for me to give him a total whitewash. As I say, the fight is still competitive all the way through, just that Pea still does enough to win them.

Anyone else believe that a fight with the kinda' scores I put forward (117-111) can still be a competitive matchup?

The decision was a disgrace, on the same league as that of Lewis-Holyfield 1.

Absolutely, so long as the rounds are close. I thought it was a competitive fight, but a clear win by the better man who did enough to win most rounds. Similar to a fight like Hearns/Benitez in that regard. Another very competitive and highly technical affair going by the closeness of the rounds, but one where Hearns won wide due to edging most of the rounds.

Similar to how you did. A few rounds that could've gone either way, but very few clear rounds for Chavez. Most of the clear rounds went to Pea. Around 9-3, 9-2-1, something like that.

thanks. i knew people thought Pea was robbed, just wanted to make sure it wasn't strange scoring a competitve match completely against one fighter.

Just so you know there's still some asshats who maintain Chavez deserved the draw because Pea 'ran'. Sheesh.

Ferdie Pacheco even went to Chavez first after the fight for the interview, as if he was more the winner in the contest. Showtime were THAT far up Chavez's ass.

Funny thing is, Pea was better on the inside too! In this fight, Chavez couldn't really be sup[erior at anything, even if he wasn't being bad at anything.

Towards the end of the fight the commentators are saying that 'Pee Wee' (LOL) is outhitting Chavez 4-1. Which shows Pea was hardly 'running' at all lol.

Moving along.... I dont have my exact scorecard but I scored it for Whitaker.

Most rds were close & even the ones that I gave Chavez could have gone to Whitaker.... Pea was competitive in every rd.

Also, Whitaker had 3 big rds... rd 3, 7 & 8... he dominated & outboxed Chavez in those rds.

The only way I can imagine those 2 judges scoring a draw is if they gave Chavez nearly all of the close rds but thats still wrong IMO because Whitaker controlled the pace & movement in EVERY rd, that should count FOR him in those close rds.

This from a guy who likes both but likes Chavez more.
