They’re mostly deemed better by unknowledgeable fans who love to debate on statistics.

As opposed to old heads who debate based on nostalgia and narratives? I'll take the new gens any day

If you had any knowledge, you’d realise that credible old/new fantasy match ups, would always have thrown out mixed results.

    That’s the logical prediction.

Sometimes the older fighters would have won.

Sometimes the modern guys would have won.

Nostagia and recency bias, are equally as ignorant.

A lot of people today are dazzled by a zero.

And to those people, 20 years ago was an age.

The likelihood is, they weren’t fans back then.

They’re part of a generation, where they assume that everything newer is better.

There’s ignorant guys in each section of the forum.

You have to ignore them and look for the knowledgeable fans.

    True knowledgeable fans are objective.

There is no such thing as objectivity in sports

You need to find the right people.

It’s hard to be objective if you’re talking about your favourite fighter or team.

    Most people are subconsciously biased.

    I’ve seen that many times.

But a knowledgeable fan who respects and appreciates all great fighters of all eras, should be able to be objective overall.

I’ve been watching boxing since the 1980’s. The sport itself hasn’t progressed one jot in that time. Good fighters back then would be just as good now.

The business model has changed (protecting the “O”, letting a big fight “marinate” so long that they lose any relevance) and it hasn’t improved the sport one bit. Hopefully that changes with the Riyadh season initiative already giving us some bigger fights recently.

To your point . The Division got hot for about 2 to 3 years as I remember. As in one of the best in boxing at the time. But Crawford, Spence , and Thurman never got in the ring with each other. Not only would the 70's and 80's fighters compete now, they would dominate. You cant replace activity and competition with stagnation.
