This time Frazier is using the 76 style combined with the style he used against Chuvalo Frazier is fighting both the 1973 and 1976 Foreman. Since most of you say Frazier never beats Foreman. I've already posted my thoughts on Frazier vs peak Foreman but against 1976 Foreman using the above style, I don't really see any argument. Joe was SHOT by 1976. Just worn out from all the ring wars. He came into the fight way too heavy and out of shape on top of this. Now take the FOTC Frazier and have him fight the 1976 style! Unless Foreman gets Joe early, Joe is not going to tire like he did in 1976. The '71 peak Frazier was faster, lighter, had better footwork and head movement, and threw more punches. You take that Frazier, not shopworn, not diminished from the first Ali fight, and give him the style he used against Foreman in the rematch and against Chuvalo. And Foreman couldn't even get the ABSOLUTELY SHOT Frazier until round 5. And Foreman was already tiring. Unlike 76 Frazier, pre-FOTC Frazier wouldn't have tired. So if a washed up Frazier can survive long enough to make Foreman tire, you can bet you ass FOTC Frazier would to. Unlike the shell of Frazier, Frazier will not tire in round 5. Instead Frazier will start smoking. This is the ABSOLUTE worst time to be tired. Dare I say Foreman will be more tired than he was in that fight because this Frazier hits harder and throws ALOT more punches than his broken counterpart.
The Foreman who fought Frazier in '76 was the most in shape Foreman I've seen since the Ali fight and ever again for that matter. On the other hand, Joe was nowhere near his best shape and really shouldn't have taken the fight. Just too many wars at that point. Just on shape alone, a '71 Frazier using the '76 style should have done better because he would have had the stamina to keep moving. '76 Joe kept stopping along the ropes and then it was a matter of time.

I do not see Foreman so tired against Frazier either time. And he was cautous in '76, could have taken Frazier earlier. And though not shot like Frazier, he was not peak either.

Maybe a peak Frazier can take a post peak Foreman. That's about it.

Can't see any version of Joe beating Foreman, and I don't think Frazier in the end did either.

Well that would be a Frazier that never existed, so who's to say. What you are basically aksing is: if Frazier was a better fighter than he was, could he have beaten Foreman? What is the point?

A lot of this was copied and pasted (or just copied) from comments I made in earlier threads such as this one from last year: Link to thread: http://www.boxingforum24.com/showthread.php?t=485179

Yes, altough it has been a while since I saw the Chuvalo fight. Do you mean that he employed the same tactics in that fight that he did for Foreman 2? In that case I guess I'm wrong, as far as I can remember Frazier never fought like that when in his prime. To add to the actual topic: I don't see how he would manage to land without getting in Foremans punching range. Did he really do better in the rematch? Sure he lasted some rounds, but the tactics he used nullifed his own offence.

    Yep.

Its like saying " IF Mayweather could retain his own skills AND punch like Tommy Hearns at 147 would any Welter from the last 30 years have beaten him?"

    Pure fantasy.

We're just taking prime Frazier and giving him the tactics he used against Foreman in the rematch and against Chuvalo. He evidently did a lot better in the rematch. I don't think his intentions in the second fight were to actually win rounds. I think he was just trying to survive the early rounds, tire Foreman and then smoke. He just didn't have the stamina and endurance. And the smoke was out of steam. His vision had badly deteriorated. He had contact lenses to restore some of his vision.

No version of Joe could have beaten George. Style was all wrong.
