If Marciano fell in the first round, like in the fight Rocky Marciano vs Jersey Joe Walcott 1 (or Foreman Vs Frazier 1), there would be no final stand against Peak George Foreman. Peak George Foreman is a Peak finisher.
Swag - I've noticed you have a gift for rhyme - so why not use it all of the time? <groan>. LOL, I actually went back in to edit my sh*tty poem, it's still sh*tty but now a little bit less sh*tty.
I can't see any way out for Rocky. Anything is possible and Marciano did defy paper forecasts...but still, as much as I try, I still can't see it. I wonder if George's knees would be knocking for this one also? The big lug. LOL.
Ha! I posted something on that thread and checked in the next day - my post was already well and truly buried, 6 feet under and pushing up daisies. Dayum!
I have the fight, George shot his wad in the heat took a flash kd on his way in,and was up without a count.Jimmy Young ,whom I saw make a mug out of our champion was a savvy defensive fighter who survived the bombs of top bangers like Shavers,Lyle x2 Norton,Foreman, all he had in common with Marciano was they were both boxers. Foreman beats Marciano up , because of Rocky's bravery,it would be horrible to watch. No slow small swarmer beats Foreman or Liston for that matter.imo
I totally agree with u!!!!!! And Foreman had changed styles a little also in that Young Fight- Gil Clancy…… A younger Foreman would have finished Young…. But I agree Liston and Foreman would have beaten Rocky badly
I agree that using simple "nobody can stand in front of Foreman" logic isn't too smart, though I don't think Rocky would be able to do that. Is there any hypothetical in which you'd pick Foreman as the winner?
The examples he gave were terrible because Young and Ali fought completely different from Rocky and neither of them were just standing there trading blows in an aggressive manner the way Rocky often did. It's hilarious. Even Lyle used some lateral movement and was trying to outmaneuver Foreman several times before he got suckered into a brawl and ran out of energy.
I don't know under what scenario this fight could end in a draw, but if it could, then I would like to see that fight more than any other fight in boxing history.
After Whitaker got a draw against Chavez anything is possible. But I agree in this particular matchup what would be even more shocking than a draw is if it went the distance in the first place. A cold day in hell.
Back from the pub,I would just like to add ,none of us forecasting a Foreman win by way of one sided beat down have anything but the highest regard for Rocky and what he accomplished in his era.
Marciano losses in a valiant effort. Wrong matchup for him. If by some miracle Marciano made it to round 8 he would win but I don’t see that happening. Foreman was built to destroy smallish fighters like no one I’ve ever seen.
Rocky was a better fighter but would be at quite a disadvantage in size. Marciano might land a couple of good shots but would run into jolting uppercuts that would floor and bloody him. Foreman by TKO in 7 rounds.
