No he had enough power to hurt Fury, but I would have him as a big underdog.

Cooney is an enigma. We simply don't know how good he was because of his lack of fights against contenders in his prime. Even against Holmes, he hadn't fought in over a year, and his rustiness caught up to him later in the fight, and caused him to fatigue. He put up an underrated performance against Holmes and actually would've been ahead on two cards (undeservedly but still) without the fouls.

This coupled with his performance against Young imo his career best performance, tells me he's better than his record suggests.

That being said Fury is obviously the far more successful fighter, and would be a clear favorite. But Cooney is a live underdog.

I will add to that booze, coke, and being mental in general massively worked against him.

If Fury came in out of shape I could see Cooney upsetting him hes a big puncher and a lethal body puncher, can you imagine Cooney landing those left hooks to the body on Fury's fat torso ? Remember Usyk didn't have any problems landing body shots on Fury.

But if Fury comes in at his best I would expect him to win a competitive fight.

Fury couldn't push Usyk back. Fury couldn't handle Usyk's power. Gerry Cooney by early round KO. Only biased delusional Usyk fanboys would even dare to think anything else would happen.

Agreed all around. Although if it had been Cooney who landed that beautiful left instead of Usyk...

This could turn in to Fury - Wilder 4, both men going down but Fury getting the ko
    I'll go Fury ko 10

Yes, Gerry Cooney would be heavily outmatched, Tyson Fury is too young for a peak Cooney, he likes his opponents near middle age. Ha Ha.

If he's in shape I see Cooney winning this contest. Fury's size wouldn't be much of an advantage, if any. And his big soft midsection would provide a mighty inviting target for Gerry's pulverizing left hooks.

Fury probably gets hurt mid rounds, and the outboxes and stops Cooney late, or wins a competative decision. Cooney went to the body plenty and could perplex Furys brains in an exchange, this isn't a mismatch.

I also think Cooney was better on the inside, and he's actually the faster guy here
