I said its a better indicator not that its the only thing that matters or that the guy 1 or 2 inches taller but like 30 pounds lighter would be at an advantage. You plug extreme examples to make it look silly. But height is the frame you put weight on. The talller you are the easier it is to carry more weight. Thats why Tysons needing to finish fights quick. When I say Tyson is obese people point to his muscles because when they hear that they think I'm calling him fat or out of shape. Weight is weight no matter how shredded a shorter fighter is they still have to carry that around. And its harder because they are smaller. 5'3 Magri chose a lighter build then 5'1 Walcott but Magris had more flexibility to carry more weight. Thats all I said. Unlike height weight has a drawback of slowing you down and some fighters prefer to fight light. Not only are they more agile they are taller and "bigger" then everyone in their weight class. In some cases these guys torture themselves to make weight and get that advantage. If height didn't matter they wouldn't do this. But they do. Because it does matter. Weight does matter but having a weight class every 5 or 6 pounds has conditoned us to think small amounts of weights are much more important then they actually are. Back when there were just a few weight classes fighters overcame much bigger weight differences all the time.
I don't think is true. I made a list of HW contenders reaches and found the opposite. While "white" and "black" fighters are equally represented at the high end at the bottom end its almost all "caucasian" people. 34 of the shortest 36 reaches are "white" fighters. With Tyson and Patterson being the only 2 black contenders of that group. A lot of fighters reaches are missing but this is fairly overwhelming. I only made a reach list for HWs so far. But its hard to see this doing a full 180 further down the line.
Hagler outworks him. Marvin could go for the full 15 rounds, and at his peak, he was better in every department. Not by much, but enough to win pretty handily on the cards. It'd be a war, though.
He was a normal sized middleweight for the era, but it wasn't always 'normal' for 160 pound fighters to weigh 170.
Golovkin wouldn't like the short snappy uppercuts of Hagler. Its a punch he was open to and Marvelous landed them with speed and fluidity. That risk factor prevents Golovkin from attempting to pressure Hag. So it becomes a boxing match that would probably favour Hag.
I just saw an interview with Abel Sanchez. He said that GGG arrives to camp weighing 170 lbs. He said its not a fat farm, he just focuses on conditioning and training. That explains his consistent performances. I would guess thats about the same with Marvin. It also explains why he is not seriously dehydrated and can take a great shot if needed. Canelo was likely heavier than him for a long time.
These threads are annoying because they always descend into farce and end up with two camps bloviating about their favourite boxers and arguing tooth and nail that they'd win in a fantasy match-up. We've done this Hagler-GGG song-dance a hundred times over and it always ends up the same. I also don't reckon "the elder statesmen of boxing" (who I assume means Hagler) give a flying **** about what a couple of dudes on an internet forum say about them from up in Heaven, or wherever else they might be.
I think its always very interesting to discuss mythical match ups but unless one has proven something different to the last time we spoke about the match up, it can be repetitive. Especially if its Ali V Tyson or something.
