I think Douglas has the quicker hands and better combination punching. I think Bugner's size and solid skills will keep him competitive but Douglas's jab, quick hands and combos will allow him to win a close decision.
Bugner's a lot like a better Tucker. Have a look at the early rounds against Ali, he had some game when pushed.
Really impressed against Dunn as well. Not sure I've seen many heavies with more wasted potential than Bugner tbh.
I watched his fight vs Frazier a few years ago after Pugguy asked me to rewatch it and I was actually surprised. Bugner was alot more competitive against Frazier than I originally thought. Yeah Frazier won quite wide on points but boy was Frazier made to work hard and he was even stunned a few times by Bugner's right hands. I've often compared Tucker to Bugner two durable big Heavyweights who often fought too passive despite their talent. But I think Bugner showed more overall against Ali 1, Frazier, etc. Put it this way I don't think Tucker would engage Frazier in a battle like Bugner did.
Yeah, i think Bugner often gets categorised without people watching enough of him. A lot seem to think of him as a pretty big oaf but he's got some handspeed and skills going on. A different attitude and mindset would have seen him move up a level IMO.
If its over 15 theres a chance Joe outlasts Buster late on and Douglas quits. Depends which Joe turns up. Buster has faster feet and hands and good combinations. Bugner is very hard to assess in head to heads.British, European and Commonwealth Champion in the early 70s and in the late 80s beating Tillis,Bey and Page as 'Aussie Joe' was fantastic. But the fact he checks out with a payday v Bruno,has the balls to go into a cauldron of hatred and fight competitively but in my opinion lay down having come in 20lbs overweight is a metaphor for his career.lamb v Ali....lion v Frazier and Lyle. I don’t think Joe can hang with Buster’s jab. And if he can’t jab with Buster, I don’t see him finding a lot of success otherwise. Buster coasts to a decision win.
