The Ali who beat Foreman would lose a close decision to Holmes. Not fast enough to make up for Holmes power advantage. The Ali who beat Terrell wins a close decision based on his better foot speed. He would be able to move in do his damage and get out without being hit like Spinks did.

It’s a proper 50/50. You’ve got Ali’s freakish movement against Holmes’ piston of a jab.

People forget, Holmes was a master at the basics and Ali always struggled against a world class jabber - just look at the mess Norton made of him.

I’d probably back Ali on the split just for the chin and the engine, but it’s as close as it gets in the heavyweight division.

 

Yes I believe it would be close and would go the full fifteen rounds. I think Ali would win a decision based on his better footwork, speed and workrate. If I were to take a guess at how it looks it’s probably something like 9 rounds to 6

 

I think it would be one of those fights that is deceptive if one only views the scorecards. I see Ali winning practically all of the rounds, but they would be very close rounds.

 

If I guessed, Ali wins a close decision that may end up being disputed for decades to come.

 

I'd go with Ali in a 9-6 UD. Holmes would definitely be competitive, but Ali's superior hand and foot speed would ultimately be the difference.
