That is a good point, even if it is unlikely to happen. After all Boxing is also a mental game and Mike's fortitude was suspect. Tyson was essentially a schoolyard bully and therefore he could be intimidated while Rocky was a real street tough, so he has a card to play here but that is not going to be easy. For this scenario to work, Rocky would need to get surgical and lucky, shaking Tyson at the very beginning: no hard enough to take him out, of course, but hard enough to make Tyson cautious and keep him honest during the early rounds, until Rocky’s superior stamina and toughness comes into play. The problem with this scenario is Rocky would need to catch Tyson, and that is a tall order of business. In his prime Tyson was a defensive prodigy who mastered the peekaboo style. Later in his career he became a lazy headhunter, but prime Tyson was almost untouchable. So, there is slim chance this gameplan could work for Rocky, but I still think the more credible outcome is Tyson beating him.
A generational talent who is next to Ali the most recognized fighter on the planet vs a a crude 185 pound Bleeder who went life and death with balding Pensioners way past their expiration date and even got himself knocked down in the process................can you imagine Holmes would have floored Tyson before getting stopped ......... LOL, Tyson can't infight.....................infighting was the beginning of the end for Ferguson, infighting decapitated Frazier's kid, infighting caused the first body shot knock down vs Spinks and up close finished Spinks for good...........infighting sent Douglas to the long count.....infighting broke Razor's ribs.............infighting /side stepping waxed Buster Mathis jr...........yeah Tyson dont know how to infight. You cannot under any circumstances fight Tyson head on, too fast, too elusive, too good of a chin, too hard to hit clean , too powerful with both fists textbook style................to trouble him you need size, a excellent jab, clinching qualities and lateral movement..........Rocky aint got none of that..................Douglas boxed long range and the moment he got brave he got almost stopped.............Holyfield did not face head on a washed up Tyson who fought barely a little more than a half dozen rounds in four years ...............Lewis did not face head on the Ghost of Tyson....... Tyson stops Marciano in two rounds max.
Prime Tyson was almost untouchable compared to the competition he fought. Which with the benefit of hindsight wasn't all that great. Rocky would not have as much of a problem catching Tyson as you think. They are the same height, similar reach and also have a similar style so there is no where else the fight happens except in the pocket. They were both forward-moving swarmers who never fought going backwards. Tyson has no choice but to fight in Rocky's wheelhouse.
1) IIRC Rocky's competition wasn't that great neither. 2) No doubt. Problem is Tyson wouldn't have a problem catching Rocky too, and IMO if they go to an open war early it is Tyson who has the advantage.
