I know there was a reproduction of the fight that was released in 1914.

I believe Klompton said it's been lost, as has McGovern-Dixon 1.

There is footage of Palmer sparring D ic k Burge though.

    Flea,

Off topic, have you seen McGovern vs Gans? If so, do you think its a fake. I slowed down the action and noticed McGoven landed a good one that shook the knees of Gans just before he fell for the first time. Kind of hard to fake a reflex like that.

Siegmund Lubin film * McGovern-Palmer fight was filmed at Tuckahoe, which lasted 28 seconds. Not a foot of film was taken until they stepped into the ring. Then the miragraph began to purr. Terry and the challenger bowed separtely to the Chronic brothers and took their corners to wait. The bout was expected to be a vicious, closely fought battle, and the interest was high. But when Terry McGovern knocked out "Pedlar" Palmer in the first round, the American Sportagraph Company folded.

The film is black and white so we can judge for ourselves. Stop with the racial ****. My top two heavies are Ali and Holmes, and they each man said some bad things.

I wasn’t talking to you here, but I do remember you were the guy who said there's something in Italian's that make them cheat.

I don't think it has the legs to roundabout. Gans signed a sworn affidavit that he gave his best. McGovern for his part was a bit like Tyson in terms of his ability to intimidate and end fights early with power. Its not like Gans had a grade A chin.

If Gans was in on a fix, it opens pandora’s box as he could have had other " arrangements " for him.

If Lubin filmed it it was probably a fake or a re-enactment. Im not aware of any legitimate fights that Lubin actually filmed on site.

Whatever. "It doesnt have legs" LOL. Your willingness to completely ignore anything that diverges from your bizarre world view is duly noted. It was universally considered a fix and the story was prevelant enough that it caused boxing in Chicago to be banned for a quarter century. Nevermind that Gans had only been stopped in his career twice prior to that by guys who were much bigger than McGovern and in the later rounds of those fights. He was only ever stopped twice more at the end of his career when dying of TB against a guy who was bigger and bigger puncher than McGovern. The only way McGovern could win that fight would have been by KO against a guy who was extremely tough, durable, well conditioned, and defensively excellent and yet that guy comes out fighting like his arms are made of jello and he has two left feet then goes down from a punch that doesnt even land but loops around the back of his neck. I know I know you like those punches by white fighters that miss but produce KDs (Ketchel Johnson) and like to make up events in fights that never happened to support your argument but this fight is beyond ridiculous. The guy who just took a dive to Mickey Rourke fought with more wherewithal than Gans who even at that time was considered a phenom.

Was Nelson a bigger puncher than McGovern? Nelson always seemed an accumulative puncher to me.

McGovern of course smashed Frank Erne, which was mightily impressive.

He was considered a big puncher in his time, particularly to the body, which you would expect to be a more effective way of chopping down Gans than the wild swings McGovern was throwing.
