Pre fights talk is just that talk especially coming from the trainers, managers, promoters, family members, friends because none of those mofos are the ones getting on the ring so they shouldnt be talking so much but is part of the boxing culture.

Plus giving away rounds is the last thing cotto should do, he needs to start strong impress early and keep the pressure on floyd. If he gives rds away floyd will impress the judges and a lot of times that carries to the scorecards and tips the balance towards a boxer in the judges mind especially on the closer rds.

As we can see Diaz is not talking about giving away any rounds, if anything he's sort of responding on how Cotto's chance is at the beginning. Probably implying that if Mayweather takes too long studying Cotto the fight might be over before he even gets started.
