How do you see this going.

Pedroza was awarded the ring belt despite never beating the next best FW, this meant he was guaranteed his number 1 position until the Clones Cyclone defeated him.

Nelson came up short against Sanchez then ruled the WBC lineage at FW. Would the Professor have defeated Pedroza had they unified? Is it fair Pedroza is considered a greater FW than him?

If you remove who was rightful champion and think of how a fight would go, which FW really was the superior one?

    I think Azumah by decision.

Depends. If we're talking about a fight to unify in '84 or '85 then Nelson's strength and aggression win out. Pedroza was fading after 1983, and if McGuigan could maul him that way, Nelson would have beaten him worse.

If it's a younger version of Pedroza we imagine going up against Nelson of '84-'86, I like Pedroza by decision. So fast, such good upper body movement, so varied an attack. Highly underrated.

    I'm so undecided.

Azumah was a great boxer but not quite as fluid as Pedroza. Ironically enough though I think Azumah had the late fight power needed to be a game changer if he's losing the chess battle.

Aside from Sanchez and Pea no one neat a prime Nelson but you could argue he beat no one as good as a prime Pedroza.

I think prime Nelson could win this

It may come down to durability in the late rounds, and Nelson was more durable.

If Nelson is to be favoured, which is what we're suggesting, should he also be considered a superior FW in lists as well?

Resume wise they're quite similar although Nelson was more consistent.

I'll go against the grain and say Pedroza by decision. I think his range and skills would be very problematic for Nelson. Of course, Pedroza would have to survive some dangerous moments, but I think overall he outboxes Nelson.

I think Pedroza has the better hand speed and fluidity. I honestly can't see him leaving Nelson all that room to counter.

If Nelson is forced to lead from the early rounds this could end up being a fairly wide decision for Pedroza.

One of these will have to fight out of their comfort zone and I can't see Nelson being the ring general here. How is he gonna make Pedroza come to him? We saw how uncomfortable he was leading against Bernard Taylor but Nelson won't be able to replicate that strategy imo.

If I have a gun to my head I go Pedroza on points.

I'd also lean, narrowly, to Pedroza. His real strength was to get people off their game and make them fight his fight, and I figure him to do that. If so, Nelson can't beat him at his own game.

Patrick Ford is an excellent one, as is Juan Malvarez, to get a good look at both his body punching (Ford) and upper-body movement (Malvarez).

This one is a brutally tough call for me...could see both winning. Slight lean towards the Nelson who dethroned Gomez for the decision win...based on pace and aggression. Great match up.
