Not sure if it's been posted and I'm not sure which websites I can post on here without getting banned, but this article froms from the phil boxing site.. just add /news/story-17943.html after the .com.. WBO Bantamweight champ Gerry Penalosa wants a fight with WBC Super Bantamweight champ Israel Vazquez.. Penalosa wanted a rematch with Daniel Ponce De Leon after his loss to him in which he thought he won, but is no longer chasing that rematch after De Leon was knocked out by Juanma Lopez.. Would this be a good idea for Penalosa jumping up a division to take on Vazquez who IMO would be a dangerous fight for him.. What are ya'lls thoughts?
Indeed.. I think a Vazquez vs Juanma/Molitor fight would be much more enticing.. I wouldn't mind seeing Vazquez fight Penalosa though, just to see him fight someone else besides Marquez.. He had three straight wars with Marquez, so would Vazquez look to go to war against Gerry or would he try to box? No doubt those wars took some years off of him..
I say Juanma, Molitor, Penalosa ect.... beat the **** out of eachother for a while and let the Azteca's rest. (Let them try to put on a show without a Mexican fighter for once)
I rather he retire while hes ahead, but hey I got no problem with the fight, Penalosa gets a final payday calls it a career and Izzy gets a decent name to add on to his HoF bound resume.
Like Penalosa, I also felt his fight with Ponce was a hell of a lot closer than the scorecards reflected. I thought Penalosa was landing the better shots, and blocking most of Ponce's flurries. I would admire Penalosa a lot for wanting to go out the best in the world, rather than some guy who's going to make him look good. Go Gerry :happy
