Penn looked so fit & strong last night - should he stay at 170 or not?

BJ vs Fitch is gonna be good.

BJ needs to be in better shape at the weight and not use it as an opportunity to train a little less.

 

Id love to see BJ fight Hardy, you know it would be entertaining as ****.

Penn is not a 170lb'er , and never has been , yes he looked great in physique and atitude on Saturday but we have seen the way Penn looks @WW in the past when he's been there against top opposition I.E St Pierre , he's heavy with no real power and his TD defence suffers as well

Hughes is a bit differennt , Penn has Hughes's number , stylistically he's all wrong for Matt Hughes , just the way Edgar is for Penn , not to mention Hughes is a seriously seriously shot fighter :deal

I honestly think Penn's best weight is 55 , when he gets the cut right he's a frightening athlete and is enormous at the weight , if the UFC are gonna keep Penn @70 they should match him wisely , look after him a little , that said matching him with John Fitch isnt really looking after anyone now is it !!!

For me , BJ should be welcoming Jose Aldo to 55 once he demolishes Josh Grispi , thats a headline fight right there , one i would have BJ as the underdog in TBH , but still a great great fight ..........

WW does generally look like it suits BJ's "takedown defence and box" gameplan of recent years better than LW given that the division has always been pretty wrestler focused.

It brought him sucess but I didnt like BJ's passive attitude in the buildup to the Edgar loss either. Guys like Kenny and Deigo should not have lasted as long as they did agenst him given the superirity he was showing. Hopefully fighting as more of an underdog(well less of a favourite anyway) at WW is going to bring back more of the aggresive BJ. If your going to fight a narrow game then depending on domination to win is a recipe for failure IMHO.

 

I know what you're saying and I don't blame you for feeling that way.

I've been a BJ Penn fan longer than you've probably known this sport existed. If BJ was going to beat Edgar he had his chance to do it and didn't take it in the rematch. Edgar has his number. He's too fast and too well rounded for Penn to beat him at this stage of their careers. If they fight again it will be another heartbreaking dominating performance by Edgar.

so penn will be settling for second at best in either 155 or 170, I bet he gets beat more at ww than he would at lw.

 

Maybe. Time has passed. BJ has rebuilt himself since the GSP defeat. If Penn cleans out the top contenders at 170 a rematch would make sense.

I personally wouldn't want to see a third fight between penn and GSP.

Penn probably wouldn't be as ready mentally as he was for the first rematch, and GSP won't get any credit for a 3rd win against Penn, he's just too big for him.

For GSP, in order to get some anticipated match ups its gonna have to be at 185.

For Penn I'd definitely agree with a fight with Jose Aldo in the future, or any top WW besides St-Pierre. BJ is still clearly in the game, only Edgar can do what he did to him. :good

I'd say theres a good chance GSP may move up to MW post Kos though, what else is there for him at WW after that? Nate Diaz maybe but thats hardly a mouth watering fight.
