I dont know how anyone can say Penn is overrated. We`ve seen him do BJJ that most didnt even know existed. His gone up in weight and beaten and hung with some of the best fighters and yet his overrated? Puhlease.
Thats Sherks fault. His been on steroids long enough. You`d think he would have known how to cycle on and off by now.
Yeah, you know I was watching his All Access show and thought to myself "Wow this guy is huge maybe he IS naturally like that" but stepping back and thinking about it, theres just no way that the human body can recover that fast after such an intensive workout and I think his intensive workout was daily. BJ said that he suspects he has fought fighters who have taken steroids before, I wonder who he was talking about? (Hughes? GSP?)
This is for an interim title, nothing has been decided as far as Sherk goes. Dana got fed up with the AC when they delayed his hearing 2 more weeks. Stevenson is good enough on the ground to not get subbed easily, and has a better gas tank, by far. But, BJ is, as others have stated much better on the feet with remarkable takedown defense and could end it early. Penn will and should be the betting favorite, but if Stevenson goes off at anymore than +200 he will be the smarter bet, he is really quite remarkable on the ground, and could possibly stop BJ from BJ's guard, or as the match progresses get into a dominant position and end it with something similar to Hughes BJ 2.
People forget that BJ sometimes is just not into the fights. As was the case against Pulver the first time, St. Pierre..he has this I dont give a **** atittude and is very non chalant about it. This also goes for his preparation before a fight, he thinks surfing does it. Remember its sometimes is hard to get up for a fight when you have all the money you need. Now, I think this back to back loses has lit up a fire under him...He wants to prove once and for all that he is the best ever p4p.
i think the fact that hes never had to worry about money, and the fact that all the penns are bad ass at jiu jitsu (some of his brothers are also black belts),is a part of the reason hes got that attitude, he just gets it, idk how but he does, so he doesnt train seriously cause usually he doesnt have to , which is dissapointing cause when he does train (i.e. second fight with pulver) hes unstoppable...hopefully he trains seriously for this fight i want him to put on another clinic, onlything i have to say is, dont knock surfing, its a great workout but i agree it cant be the only thing you do, only if we lived in a world where just surfing alone, and not time on the mat and in the ring made you the best, then every champ would be from hawaii...oh well theres waves today...im gonna score chicks
I think you're way off here. Hughes only got BJ in a dominant position after BJ had broken his rib and was deadly exhausted (which definitely could happen again, but it is not something you can count on) This is what you should go by. Hughes and GSP are two extremely strong WWs and great wrestlers. Both bigger, stronger and better then Joe. Hughes took down BJ and ended up in his guard...soon after no success at passing or doing ANY serious GNP damage he was tooled with and made a fool of when BJ pulled one of the most impressive maneuvers I've ever seen done to an elite fighter (Hughes) when he slivered around from his guard to take his back and then fell into a triangle/arm bar which Hughes luckily survived til the end of the round. Every time GSP was in Penns guard, he also was unsuccesful in 1) passing and 2) inflicting any real GNP damage. GSP passed Hughes's guard in a matter of seconds in the rematch and treated Trigg like a 12yr old girl on the ground....but againt BJ he too found himself in a sumbission attempt nearing the end of the 3rd round. This all leads me to believe that, barring injury or haymaker blow to Penn, Stevenson is **** out of luck on the ground, even if he is on top :deal :deal :deal :deal
I think BJs a level above Stevenson in everything aside from ground and pound tactics. It might be alittle one sided but given these 2 guys styles it should be fun. BJ TKO hes a much better striker.
