People actually believe Hatton is ducking Witter!?

    I find it amusing that people think Ricky is scared to take on Witter. Witter has been talking about fighting Hatton for years yet he can't seem to string a run of decent performances together. Its one thing calling a guy out but then when you go on to struggle against Colin Lynes, have the worst fight ever with Corley and produce another dire display against Morua what makes him think anyones listening?
    His win over Harris was good but thats all, this is a guy that got koed by Carlos Maussa a man that some people gave Ricky stick for fighting after Tszyu and unyfying the IBF and WBA titles. But in fairness to Witter its a step in the right direction if he can not stink the place out against Hopkins his stock will rise in the US. Witter is starting to do now what he should of been doing 4 or 5 years ago backing up his **** talk and instead of bitching about not fighting Ricky actually get a few names on his CV and maybe turn in a few good performances to make people sit up and take notice. Carl Froch was doing the same with JC but at least he was backing up his talk with impressive wins and he is now in line for some big fights in the near future (WBC eliminator with Inkin). To say Hatton a man that has been in there with Tszyu, JLC and the worlds p4p no1 in a weight division which doesnt really suit him shows he isn't scared of fighting anyone. Hatton stated he wanted to fight Mayweather and he went after him did what he had to won over the American audience and got his wish. He got his ass kicked in the end but he took it on the chin and IMO still has alot to offer. Now Witter is finally doing something to get the fight he wants with Hatton apart from talking **** then putting on laboured performances against average opposition.
    I believe this fight will happen if Witter beats D-Hop and Hatton returns with a win either late 08 or early 09. And to be fair it will probably not set the world alight. I believe Witter will have his moments but he is too lazy to sustain it for 12. Hatton will get a good early lead and again come on strong late for a fairly comfortable UD.

    I agree with your comments on Witter's inconsistency and lack of name in the US.

    However I think that stating the 3 fights you have mentioned show he isn't scared of Witter is wrong on 3 fronts;

    1. Tszyu - Hatton was the challenger, it was a potential ticket into the big time and was an opportunity to win a title against a P4P#10 ranked opponent. no shame in defeat to Tszyu

    2. JLC - possibly past his best days, good opportunity to get US exposure and a decent name on the record

    3. Mayweather - Big pay day and no shame in losing to P4P#1.

    In all of these 3 fights hatton had something to gain that was worth risking defeat for. If he was to fight Witter there isn't as much on the table to risk the defeat as there was in the 3 fights above.

    Hatton wins - everyone can say it was expected as Witter has been inconsistent and on top of this it probably isn't a massive pay day. It won't generate the interest in the US that an ODLH fight would, for example.

    Witter wins - where does Hatton go after that? Defeat against PBF does not damage Ricky's career as much as a defeat against Witter would.

    It all comes down to the old risk v reward. At this time in his career I think that Hatton feels the reward for fighting Witter does not warrant risking defeat. This does not mean Hatton is scared of Witter, but he is scared of the effect defeat would have on his career. Even if Witter was shite he would still have a puncher's chance of doing something in this fight. I happen to think that Witter would give Hatton a lot of trouble.

    He took Luis Collazo an awkward southpaw for his first fight at 147 on short notice. He had alot to lose there especially with it being his debut in the states Collazo was the WBA holder but was hardly a name.

    If Witter was the superior fighter he would have forced himself onto the world stage by now and be a name. Its not Ricky Hattons fault that his last fight was at the MGM grand against the p4p number 1 and Witters was against Vivian Harris in front of 1500 people at the Doncaster dome. Millions of people saw Hatton vs Mayweather id say less than 20 thousand saw Witter vs Harris so its easy to see why Junior has not been Hattons main priority. But if he can keep impressing he will force Hatton into fighting him but he hasn't done much more than anyone else at 140 to warrant getting the fight. He should start mentioning Hattons name after beating someone of note not sqeaking past Colin Lynes (with all due respect to Colin).

    But like ive said the fight against Hopkins is a positive step for Junior now all he needs to do is win and actually look good in doing so.

    He has beat Tszyu and JLC and went 10 rounds with Floyd at 147 where he clearly isnt comfortable so why wouldnt he be confident. Im sure Juniors destruction of Atruro Morua and Demarcus Corley have Hatton quaking in his boots. :lol:

    you still don't get it, and I see you haven't given up with the excuses.

    blueballs78 covers it pretty well.
    Plus, I feel Hatton is an arrogant guy and a chancer.....the excuses for not fighting Witter have kept changing. He knew he could fall back on excuses or at least dodgy justification for losing to Tszyu or Mayweather (as he did)...losing to Witter (a guy he has run down in the past himself) would shatter his credibility and expose him for what he is...a conman and and the 2nd best at 140 in Britain.

    Hatton has the the nerve to say Witter built a career by slagging him off, but he himself slagged off Mayweather to force the fight and Wikcy has made plenty of jibes at Witter. And how the **** did Witter use Hatton to get all those good wins he has? :huh . Makes no sense. Hatton's just a wee gobshite.

    Hatton has a better record than Witter that is without doubt, but it is also not the point.

    Hatton is considered as the linear 140 champ and Witter is the recognized number one contender, that is the only reason the fight should happen and in all honesty I think thats the only reason that matters.

    Hatton has chosen to not fight Witter because he has been disrespected by him, on constant ocassions over the last 5 years. Hatton would rather retire than line Witter's pockets with money repped off the back of his name, and his fame. Witter doesn't sell, and no one is interested in him bar a few hardcore boxing fans in England. Hatton is right to let him rot, just on principle.

    There is no bigger fight than Junior Witter at 140. If Hatton carries on at welter then so be it, but I cant see how the Malignaggi is a better fight...

    Its a shame when boxing fans say he is right not to fight his fello countryman and rival title holder/number 1 contender, if Ricky carries on fighting he will have to fight Junior Witter it is that simple.

    The only excuse Ricky has given is that Witter has been slagging him off, imagine if Eubank and Benn thought like that, they would have never got int he ring, Clay would have never fought Liston, Frazier wouldnt have fought Ali and mouthing off didnt stop Hatton jumpin in with Mayweather...
