I agree that this isn't really the kind of fight Pacquiao should be taking; it lacks the luster and excitement going into it that every Pacquiao fight should have....

That said however, people are FAR too quick to write Algieri off. It wasn't long ago that people were clamoring at the idea of Pac vs Provodnikov; the difference being now that Algieri has beaten Provodnikov - fairly too. Like it or not, that single win alone puts him right up there in the mix of the top in the division. You could plausibly argue that he did a better job than Bradley against Prov, yet people readily acknowledge Bradley as being a top p4p fighter....

Comparisons between Prov and Pac can also be made, in that they're both aggressive/volume punchers, with Pac being the more intelligent of the two and Prov being the more reckless/powerful. I fully expect Algieri to employ a similar tactic against Pac and I absolutely believe he'll be at least be partially successful.

Also, look at how Pac has performed against the more "boxing" techniques in recent times. Marquez/Bradley, even an aged Mosley proved that all it takes is some genuine intelligence to often nullify Pac and steal rounds by boxing carefully.

Even though I expect Pac to win, I'd be shocked if the fight isn't competitive. I don't think we'll be seeing many fireworks, and I fully expect that to be attributed to an intelligent fight plan employed by Algieri.

    Anyone else thinking the same?

I agree with you, this fight could easily blow up in Pac's face.

I'd give Algeri a reasonable chance at an upset height/reach advantage along with style advantage this has UD all over it for me at this point Ruslan is probably stronger than Pacquiao so a KO is unlikely not the best fight but this is where Pac is in his career

His height might frustrate Pac for first few rounds until Pac gets confident enough to basically just run through him. Similar to Pac-Solis, Solis frustrated Pac early until Pac got pissed.

I don't think Algieri deserved the win vs. Provodnikov... but since he did get the win, I don't have a huge problem with the fight. It took some getting used to, but I'm over it now. Pacquiao needs to look fantastic, anything less will make him look like **** in the eyes of many people.

Speaking of Provodnikov and Bradley... why not Bradley vs. Provodnikov II?

Agreed. Im quite surprised people are thinking that all pac has to do is show up. Algieri is a smart fighter, and those are dangerous.

I can see this being a close fight
