People are forgetting one of the biggest assets to have against guys like Kovalev. Everyone keeps harping on about Ward's lack of power and think that automatically spells doom. Now I'm not saying Ward is a master boxer that's going to make Kovalev look like an amateur (but he will make him look bad, Chilemba made him look poor despite losing 10-2 on my card). What's the one thing that every fighter LOSES when they face Kovalev or Golovkin (two P4P huge punchers)? What's the one thing Kovalev and Golovkin always have? I never see anyone mention it: :think COMPOSURE I'm surprised more people aren't stressing the importance of composure. The minute you lose composure, you lose nearly everything else you trained for. The speed, the footwork, your ring IQ all goes out the window when you lose composure. Ward has been down before, he's been hurt, he's been swarmed, but I don't recall him losing composure. This is extremely important for him in this match, and I'm expecting both he and Kovalev to have composure in abundance. This is a chess match, and will be a very calculated fight. I can't pick a winner but I do expect Ward to get dropped at least once. :bbb
Indeed. However, it will come down mainly to footwork if Ward's going to win. Kovalev mainly straight punches and he's slower than Ward, if Ward can circle him in such a way that he can never be set to throw a good shot, he'll make it harder for Kovalev to land on him and minimize his power. Basically he'll have to do lots of "running".
can Ward keep his composure after feeling Kovalev's power? I think he's smart enough to outbox Kovalev, but he'll need to fight the perfect fight, because Kovalev has just as high a ring IQ as Ward does
Once he tastes Sergeys power Ward will revert to his Butting Billy Goat style Only problem is Are the judges honest enough to penalize him for it ??? They never have before
Ward will cut Kovalev's punch output in half. Dude will be standing like IVAN Drago with his right hand ****ed the entire fight without throwing one meaningful punch because of the counter shots that will be coming back his way. The bully will become the bullied real quick in this fight.
If he is going to lose composure this will be the time. He's been hurt sure but we saw the way Hopkins boxed to survive when he tasted Kovs power. I among many feel Kov held back on Hopkins only trying to finish him late. I cant see him pulling any punches on Ward. Everyone has composure till they get hit :deal
